Celebrate the Game Boy’s 25th Anniversary with Tasukete Tako-San: Save me Mr Tako

The original Game Boy turned 25 years old back in April of this year, while your European fans got their hands on the Game Boy a bit later, on September 28th.

A French indie developer named Christophe Galati has been working on a tribute game in classic Game Boy style, to which he published a demo for back on the same day, September 28th, of this year. Featured above, you can view some gameplay for Tasukete Tako-San: Save me Mr Tako, a tongue-in-cheek platformer that has you playing as an octopus in a world dominated by octopi – until the filthy humans came into existence that is.

Your goal as a rogue octopus is to help save kidnapped humans, while also pacifying those angry and or hurtful humans and octopi alike, as there has been a war raging on between the species. The entire world is semi-procedurally generated, and is always scrolling from right to left. You can unlock special powers, and you can also unlock special abilities with different hats, sort of like another famous platformer that had a thing for power-wielding hats.

Tasukete Tako-San: Save me Mr Tako isn’t finished, although Galati is hoping to get the game into the Wii U at some point. For now, make sure you download the demo via its page on IndieDB, and make a note that it’s available for Windows, Mac, and Linux.
