The fallout from the rumored buyout of Twitch by Google caused a stir in the gaming industry – many fans were furious and expecting a lockdown as far as copyright infringing content goes.

Despite a copyright blocking content-id like system being sneakily implemented, we still haven’t gotten official confirmation that Google did indeed purchase Twitch. Now, we’ve learned that it was actually…… Amazon, of all giant mega-corporations, that has bought Twitch TV.

Starting at the end of this year, Amazon will acquire all of Twitch’s outstanding shares “for approximately $970 million in cash”, meaning they’ve got that deal sealed with real money, quite a lot of money in fact.

“Amazon and Twitch optimize for our customers first and are both believers in the future of gaming,” said Twitch CEO Emmett Shear. “Being part of Amazon will let us do even more for our community. We will be able to create tools and services faster than we could have independently. This change will mean great things for our community, and will let us bring Twitch to even more people around the world.”

So what do you guys think? Have we seen the lesser of two evils buy out Twitch?
