The Quinnspiracy Continues – Vivian James Indiegogo is Reportedly Hacked

vivian james 08-24-14-1

If you’ve been following the recent incident with Zoe Quinn and have done any real investigating into the fiasco, you’d eventually find out that Zoe Quinn sabotaged a female game developer oriented game jam, only to launch her own fraudulent one later.

That game jam was hosted by The Fine Young Capitalists, which later carried on in an attempt to still prove that women can have innovative and fun ideas for games, via Indiegogo. The submissions were obviously restricted to only women, and the team at The Fine Young Capitalists would take care of all the rest.

Following the whole Zoe Quinn scandal, 4chan banded together and donated thousands of dollars to their Indiegogo, resulting in the acceptance of their character, Vivian James (pictured above). Vivian is an original character that The Young Fine Capitalists claim “embodies the ideals of the production” of the game itself.

To be clear, the game itself would have its profits split, and 8% percent of it will go to the woman who came up with the winning idea. The remaining money will go towards a charity that 4chan voted on, and the overwhelming majority chose The Colon Cancer Alliance, in an effort to “cure butthurt.”

This apparently pissed off a lot of people, despite the good-natured premise of the Indiegogo, the game, and Vivian Games altogether, because someone has reportedly hacked into their campaign and taken it offline.

So with their Indiegogo still offline, it makes you wonder who is truly behind these hacks. We’ll be talking about all of this in our podcast, which is airing later today.

Correction, the profits would go the lead designer, the rest would go to charity.

FakeangeL is right. The 8% profits go to the women who came up with the winning game idea. The rest go to charity.

and yet, most gaming websites didnt pick up the story, at all

no mention of The Fine Young Capitalists

their sabotage by zoe, their second campaign, the popularity of their second campaign and the hack

    fucking disgusting hypocrites

Also, the focus of the game jam is to highlight women who have good ideas for games, not necessarily female protagonists. The game produced by the game jam does not need to have a protagonist with any sex at all– the only real requirement for people to submit their game concept is that the creator of the concept is a woman.

Everybody is pointing to a third party, possibly the same ones who hacked polytron (which should be concerning given the evidence that could support that one being an inside job) they even capitalized the v again :/

Is it really a hack? What I’m getting off this is it sounds like someone wasn’t careful with their password/IP.

I mean it could boil down to that as well – I was just going off what the people at TFYC said. Either way, they’re saying their Indiegogo was taken down lol.

It would be completely nuts if they did it themselves, if you don’t mind me throwing another conspiracy theory out there. However, due to their history with Zoe, it just wouldn’t add up.

Both attacks between Zoe and Phil, and now this, just don’t add up. Too many sloppy mistakes and it’s all too coincidental. It just stinks.

A great idea, yet again crapped upon by people who want to stay on the top while drowning out all the upcomers.

Exactly. These aren’t hacks. It’s the same thing I was doing to mIRC channels back in 1996. It’s just brute force password mining, that’s it. Or social engineering. Like the time I took an account of a guy who had a Dragonball name. Took me 4 tries until I got his right password, which was “dragonbz”.

The person behind it is probably some hipster white knight douchebag who thinks saving his girl zoe will get him nasty hippie chick poontang.

I trend towards keeping my head out of the game when it comes to this sort of stuff. Kinda how I handle/view politics. You could take a bunch of these recent issues and draw up lines with no middle ground. The RPS crowd vs the Niche gamer one say. Then you’ve got things like the name calling from some on both sides..you’ve got memes and stuff worked into reducing the other side into the ‘not a person’ category (i.e. sticking a label on someone so you can thereafter ignore everything they say that might cause you cognitive dissonance) That being either “your a misogynist!’ or “your a SJW!’ depending on the side doing the name calling.

Its not like all of that isn’t valid discussion..but since I find myself right down the middle most of the time, I’ve got very little room to ‘talk’ without being potentially shouted down by both sides.

All that said to say..it leaves stuff like this kinda hard to process. The issues are so controversial that there is no middle ground to work with left. For all we know this was A-a mistake(wrong password lockout) B-a single misguided individual or C-a random bit of bad luck that has nothing to do with the controversy surrounding it’s target..

It -could- be a grand conspiracy…but I mean that would sure be damn convenient for playing into the firestorm thats going on right now. If it was intentionally its just as even odds its someone doing it trying to frame someone else..

I hate it when “hackers” think they’re doing anyone any favors…

it could be, it could very well be a 3rd party doing this for shit and giggles, the bastard, sabotaging a charity, but the fact remains

none of this is being reported by mayor gaming sites

btw the site is back up

different name but same people i think, even the funds are intact

It’s mainly about the SJW movement poisoning the well in the gaming hobby the same way they did a few years back in the atheist community. They are a plague running through the net, infesting communities until they are invasion-of-the-bodysnatched to be SJW drones that move away from the core principles of their group.

Conspiracy? Maybe. Doesn’t matter. What matters is the poisoning of the hobby, of the community, and the permanent damage that these folks do to it. They infiltrate it and control its direction.

    That’s why I’m a HAGRID, a Hetero-Agnostic Gamer Rigidly Ignoring Deterrents.

In other words, yes, I’m a straight white male with a beard and two years of college under my belt, soon to be either homeless or land a job, whichever comes first. My best friend is bisexual and has asked me out twice (once before prom, once after I got him Bayonetta for his birthday), and while I might’ve turned him down, we still hang out regularly. His asking me out has never bothered me (it’s actually rather flattering that a giant flab of meat could get asked out at all, then again, it may just be my effeminate side talking), and those who mocked him for being gay or bi (to bullies those seem interchangeable, I guess) met a good punch to the throat whenever I was around.

I’ve never seen myself as a White Knight (A black knight would be cooler, but blue works as well), but I do have a stance on many things. I think misogyny is bad. I think women are equally as abusive– at /least/ in their words and thoughts– towards men as men are towards women, if not more simply because they can do it without it looking wrong. Feminism has already worked, most women are getting equal opportunities in the US, and some even are getting better opportunities than men (I’ve been turned down already from three or four jobs just because I was a guy, when before they knew my gender I’d been apparently perfect for the job), if only in certain areas.

So my final stance on this whole thing is that feminazis are a cancer, just like bronies, just like atheists, just like guitar players and singers and world leaders and wellfare abusers. I think that every group is guilty of having members that are psychopaths or asshats or whatever. But if your group is bad enough that the community MADE of asshats and psychos and d-bags turns to you in disgust, and bands together to build up a practical MONUMENT to say “stop being buttmad, we’re the biggest dicks on the ‘net, so shove off,” then you KNOW you’re not doing very good for yourself.
