Google’s Twitch Deal is Confirmed

It was rumored a while ago but according to new reports, the deal is now official.  The interesting thing according to the main report form GamesBeat is that the original report might not be true, but then again it might.  This is because both Google and Twitch declined to comment on the official parameters of the deal itself or if the one billion dollars from the original report is accurate.

The report does state that twitch investors are pleased with the deal that was placed in front of them and it is stated to be many times what they originally put into the site.  The purchase would be officially from the youtube division of google which was purchased by google back in 2006 for 1.65 billion dollars.

We will be sure to keep you up to speed when the official details roll out but this leads to some interesting discussions.  Google enforces some pretty strict copyright standards on youtube and it makes you wonder if those same rules will apply to twitch.  I can see that changing the streaming culture quite a bit.  What do you guys think will come of this deal.

Glad I don’t use twitch, Google is going to ruin them. However since game streaming is a fairly new concept I’m sure some other business will simply step up and take their place.

Hate to be the elitist anti mainstream guy, but Google has really lost me as one of its longtime adherents. I loved the company, but nowadays it seems like they want to intrude on everything in my life and when they do, they completely destroy whatever it is they touch.

The Youtube GUI is so hideous that I went from a user that went there every single day in the previous decade to someone who goes there maybe once every couple of weeks. Everyone I know has long since left Youtube for Twitch, and now? Probably leaving Twitch for some other new site, whatever it may be.
