Shaq-Fu 2 is Really Happening, That is if You Fund It

shaq-fu a legend reborn ss 1

Remember when NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal teased that a new version of Shaq-Fu was going to be revealed, and that it was already in development? Well, he was totally serious guys – a new version of Shaq-Fu really is coming, although its reveal kind of has us scratching our heads.

The new game is called Shaq-Fu: A Legend Reborn, and it’s going to be … a crowd funded game? The team developing the game is said to house talent that has worked on game series like Halo, Street Fighter, Final Fantasy, Alan Wake, Spec Ops: The Line, Killzone, and more. That’s quite the roster of talent at Big Deez Productions!

Check out their teaser trailer:

After sifting through their indiegogo campaign page, I came away with a few things. For one, they have a really, really solid plan of what this game is all about, and it already seems to be pretty far into the design stages of development. Secondly, this indiegogo campaign is mostly to gauge the interest of both the original game and of Shaq, to see if there’s enough demand out there to make this product worthwhile to fully invest in.

It’s no secret, Shaq has a lot of money, so the first reaction lots of other outlets are having – “Why isn’t Shaq just completely funding it himself?” is a bit sensationalist in my opinion. Compare this to the kickstarter campaign for Kingdom Come: Deliverance, the absolutely mind boggling RPG that would continue to be funded by a wealthy private investor, but only if the kickstarter campaign was successful.

Look, I’m not saying it’s totally ok for Shaq to be asking for money to give the go-ahead for this new version of Shaq-Fu, in fact we don’t even know if this indiegogo campaign failing equates to the game being canned. Despite the original becoming somewhat of a legend due to its hilariously bad legacy, this could be a chance for the name of Shaq-Fu to be redeemed in the gaming industry.
