Early access for games is the hot new thing, it definitely seems to be working for some – most recently the latest from Garry Newman, Rust, has earned quite a bit of cash. Newman is known for his smash sandbox hit Garry’s Mod, which has been available for nearly a decade.
How much did Rust make, you ask? Newman revealed the pretty impressive stats via an interview with Gameindustry:
“I did some rough maths this morning: in terms of profits, from sales and royalties, in a month Rust has made about 40 per cent of what GMod has made in about nine years”
That’s a pretty overwhelming statistic, especially considering that Rust isn’t even finished yet. In total, over 250,000 players have bought into the game’s Steam Early Access program.
In case you were wondering if the game’s price will be any cheaper, Newman ruled that possibility out:
“Right now it seems like a good price to stick at.”
You can buy the Early Access for Rust for $ 19.99 here on Steam.
