Yuji Naka is a Fan of Whale Watching, Apparently

real whales ss 1

When you hear the name Yuji Naka, if you’re old enough to have played on the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive, you know he was the driving force behind the original Sonic games leading up to his final Sonic game at Sega, Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games.

After departing with Sega in 2006, he founded his own studio called Prope, making him the final member of the original creative team to create Sonic the Hedgehog to leave Sega. His most recent game produced by his team at Prope is called Real Whales.

You can view a trailer for the game below:

As expected, the game simulates real whale behaviors and patterns, and has you playing as a whale watcher. Think of it as Pokemon Snap, only you’re tasked with watching those majestic sea dwellers as they breach and rise to the surface of the water.

The game is already out on iOS and Android, and while the iOS version is free, the Android version is five bucks – what’s up with that? Anyway, Prope is still hard at work on their highly anticipated Wii and 3DS game Rodea the Sky Soldier.
