1:1 Scale Model of Rei Ayanami Available in Japan for 1.815 Million Yen

Rei Ayanami scale figure Rebuild of Evangelion

F:NEX and Design Coco have announced a 1:1 scale model of Rei Ayanami from Rebuild of Evangelion, for ¥1.815 million JPY (est. $16.6 thousand USD).

Rei is a member of NERV along with Asuka Langley, Shinji Ikari, and more as the series and movies progress. The three of them form the “Childs” who pilot the EVA Units; bio-mechanical mecha built from the remnants of Angels, to fight other Angels. She pilots Evangelion Unit-00 as First Child, the first Evangelion unit built.

While initially stoic and extremely withdrawn, Rei slowly grows close to her friends, and shows more emotion. However, Rei’s past is a terrible secret that will shake all around her to the core.

The 161cm Fiber Reinforced Plastic with steel frame statue and pedestal boasts being “sculpted with the utmost attention to detail by the hands of the finest craftsmen” (translation: DeepL). The figure is described as having “eyes that smile slightly and stare at you, a slender style that looks as if it might break if you hug it, and even the different textures of the parts of the plug suit.”

The statue was produced to coincide with the fourth of the Rebuild films; Evangelion: 3.0+1.0 Thrice Upon a Time. The film made over ¥3.3 billion one week after its premiere in Japan.

The statue is made-to-order, with a maximum of three statues per person. Should there not be enough orders, production will not go ahead, and orders may also be cancelled should demand be high for the limited production. Once pre-orders are placed, they cannot be cancelled. Payment must be made in installments. Delivery will begin January 2022, and orders restricted purely to Japan until June 23rd, 2021 at 23:59 JT.

While the figure seems pricey, we previously reported on a $26,000 USD life-sized statue of Atelier Ryza from Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout.
