1000-Player Battle Royale Game “Mavericks: Proving Grounds” is Cancelled, Studio Shuts Down

Developer Automaton Games has announced they’ve cancelled their crazy ambitious battle royale game Mavericks: Proving Grounds, and the studio is preparing to close their doors.

“Please be advised that due to insufficient funding, the development of the Mavericks: Proving Grounds game has now ceased,” the studio noted. A public beta for the shooter was planned to go down in November of this year.

“Paul Cooper and Paul Appleton were appointed joint administrators of Automaton Games Limited on 30th July 2019,” the studio added, confirming they’ve entered insolvency, and has been put under management of the aforementioned administrators.

While development on Mavericks has stopped, the administrators are looking to continue supporting the studio’s first game, Deceit.

“The joint administrators are in the process of licensing the Deceit game so there will be no change in the live operation and provision of this game,” they added.
