Codemasters has let go the majority of the staff within their internal studio, made up of former Evolution Studios staff, who recently launched their new racing game OnRush.
The news comes via sources within the team (via Eurogamer), who describe the number of staff being laid off as the equivalent of the studio being “decapitated.”
The layoffs includes senior staff, creative leads, and even Driveclub and OnRush director Paul “Rushy” Rustchynsky.
The game reportedly sold poorly after its opening, with one source saying it only sold 1,000 physical copies during launch week in the United Kingdom.
Sources mentioned long-term problems, and the lack of communication between their team and Codemasters proper, with some remaining staff even now having to re-interview for positions they once held.
Despite the layoffs, Deep Silver has confirmed the post-launch content schedule for OnRush will not be affected.
