Sony Locks PS4-Linked Fortnite Accounts from Playing on Switch

Sony is facing backlash after today’s release of Fortnite on Nintendo Switch because of their harsh cross-platform restrictions.

If you played Fortnite on PS4 and linked it to your Epic Account, attempting to sign into Fortnite on Switch will greet you with the following message:

This Fortnite account is associated with a platform that does not allow it to operate on Switch. Neither the Fortnite website nor Epic Customer Service are able to change this. To play Fortnite on Switch, please create a new account.

Creating a new account makes you lose any and all progress you’ve made on your PS4 account, including any skins or battle passes you bought and anything you have earned.

While Xbox players have had this issue for a while, the new release of the Switch version brought more light to Sony’s complete dismissial of cross-console play, something both Microsoft and Nintendo have welcomed with open arms.

Both Sony and Epic Games have yet to comment on the situation.
