Matt Booty has taken the role of corporate vice president at Microsoft Studios, effectively replacing Phil Spencer’s old position prior to him moving on to be executive VP of gaming at the company.
This new position means Booty will be in charge of overseeing development on a multitude of Microsoft’s largest gaming properties including Gears of War, Age of Empires, Forza, Halo, and more. Booty was previously the boss of Microsoft’s internal Minecraft team, who handled Mojang and their ongoing sandbox game, Minecraft.
Previously, Booty worked at Midway Games on key titles like Mortal Kombat and NBA Jam, until he eventually became CEO of the company in 2008. He joined Microsoft in 2010 as their head of Redmond Studios after Midway went bankrupt, and later became the overseer of Mojang in 2015.
Microsoft Studios have their hands full with lots of games cooking in the oven including Age of Empires IV, new “definitive editions” for Age of Empires II and III, Crackdown 3 (if it will ever be released), as well as ongoing support for titles like Minecraft.
