FuRyu has announced The Caligula Effect: Overdose.

The new game is a remake of the PS Vita original, in Unreal Engine 4, for PlayStation 4. A release date is set for May 17th of next year in Japan. Featured above, you can view the debut trailer for the new version of the psychological thriller game.

Chief among the new updates with the new version are upgraded visuals and processing, and massively upgraded direction of the game overall. There’s also enough new content the game is roughly twice the size of the original, as well as multiple endings, new songs, musicians, and more.

I never played the original on the Vita, but I heard it was decent. The lack of a physical copy and performance issues is what stopped me from getting it, but if those are addressed in the PS4 version I may go for that one.

I wanted to like this game but I don’t, combat becomes too simple after you learn what attacks hit hardest, and the plot is just final fantasy tactics but worse.

I’ll give it a look, no Switch version is a missed opportunity though.

I’ll wait for a Switch port. Or just nab a really discounted version on the Vita at some point in the future. Either way.

  • BFG

Too bad they got rid of the whole “glitching out” graphics from the original Vita version

  • ProfessorFluffy

I held off on getting this game for the Vita mainly for it being ‘digital only’. Luckily it ended up being a blessing. In this situation I’d usually still have the game in my backlog and end up buying the enhanced version down the line; leaving the original never played.

Maybe this time we will get a physical release?

  • Uncle Ocelot

    How will they ever recover?

  • Jack

Every aspect was mediocre in the Vita version, so this version is bound to be trash too.

Please I just want a physical copy of this….
