Tomonobu Itagaki Resigns From Valhalla Game Studios as Representative Director

We’ve learned that veteran and legendary game creator Tomonobu Itagaki has resigned from his core roles at Valhalla Game Studios.

The boss is stepping down from his position as representative director and chief technical officer, only to slide into the new position of “prime adviser.”

Itagaki-san posted two separate messages in the press release and on his own Facebook, noting that he’s done with putting all of his being into one game after another.

Now, he’s opting to groom potential stars within the game industry by mentoring them under his tutelage and knowledge. He also turned 50 this year, so he’s probably a bit tired of the crunch time commonly found in development.

A new staff replacement for Itagaki wasn’t announced at this time.

Is this company even making anything after the fail that was Devil’s Third?

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

They had at least one other game in development.

  • mega jew

That’s the way the cookie crumbles

  • buddyluv324

Yeah, and its a shame too. I think Ninja Gaiden ( the Xbox remake), DOA2/Ultimate was his best titles he’s worked on. DOAX and DOA4 werent too bad either.

  • Travis Touchdown

Devil’s Third was amazing. I hope he helps the younger talent at the company grow. :)

He also said he was going to “do something about DOA” after finishing up Devil’s Third. He said DOA5 “ruined” Kasumi and wanted to go back and ‘fix’ the series.

  • Funtime Happysnacks

Somewhat ironically, he once speculated on whether they were still using the last bit of code he ever did– smart gambling AI and jetski physics. Guess what two things were mysteriously absent from DOAX3…

so like is your gimmick just to run counterways to whatever the prevailing sentiment is in any given topic?

  • Devil’s Third was a much bigger failure than I thought.

  • No it wasn’t.

  • Zombie_Barioth

I’m pretty sure he’s only saying that because it was on a Nintendo console, otherwise he’d be bashing it in favor of one that was. That seems to be his shtick.

Though at least once in a blue moon he does come up with something people actually agree with him on. Like that 2nd sentence. Or is that supposed to be some sort of irony?:P

When have you seen me defend SJWs on this site?

    All opinions are my own.

I have a lot of respect for this guy. DOA2 shaped my adolescence and Ninja Gaiden helped me git gud early on. Sure he’s made some mistakes, but many legends have. Whatever he chooses to do, I’ll support him.

  • Neojames82

I’m interested on asking what exactly was ruined about her since she pretty much looks the same.

  • Neojames82

Sadly a lot of legends in the gaming world have gotten worse with age. I respect this guy as well but I think he’s past his prime.

Oatmeal cookie face needs to get out of games.

I while I agree with the second point, the first point……the only thing I felt it was really amazing at was giving us this little nugget of gold:

  • Kainevil Rc

Hahaha. Failed hard after Ninja Gaiden 2. He has become just like Inafune. I bet we’ll see him starting his own kickstarter soon.

  • Funtime Happysnacks

They made her look less like an inflated real-doll by shifting from “anime kigurumi face” to a normally proportioned human being with normally-sized eyes.

Much like Miyamoto, Aonuma, and Sakamoto.
