Dragon Quest XI Japanese Sales Break 2 Million Units Within Two Days

Famitsu has revealed the first sales numbers for Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age.

The game has sold over two million copies within the first two days of it being available in the Japanese market, for PlayStation 4 and the Nintendo 3DS.

The Nintendo 3DS version slightly outsold the PlayStation 4 version at 1,130,468 copies, while the PlayStation 4 version sold 950,338 copies. In total, the game sold over 2,080,000 copies from July 29th and July 30th.

It’s worth mentioning these sales do not include digital purchases, but do include the standard version of the game, as well as hardware bundles.

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age launched for both platforms on July 29th in Japan. A Switch version is also coming, but isn’t dated yet. A western release is planned for PlayStation 4 sometime early next year.

Why couldn’t FFXV be as good as Dragon Quest XI? FF has lost it’s way. They keep trying to appeal to too many audiences at the same time.

Gee a franchize infamous for being oillegal to be launched on working days because of how many people call in ill just for a day 1 purchase is selling like sugar flavored cocaine? who would have thought
After an entire gen of starving for a good JRPG having to put up with shit like FFXIII & XV and everybody trying to milk the online multiplayer cash cow, Who could have guessed that a single player clasic JRPG would sell so much?

  • Matz

Not a big surprise, Dragon Quest is historically the greatest franchise in Japan history and I guess that many people bought both versions and might get the Switch version

PS4 is picking up steam in Japan. Will surpass PS3 if trends hold.

Dragon Quest has the same talent since the first game.

FF fell apart because Sakaguchi thought he was more of a film maker instead of a game developer, and what you said about being desperate for mainstream appeal.
