After months of rumors and speculation, the first first image of Assassin’s Creed Origins seems to have leaked.
A Reddit post made by a throwaway account called “shoutouttoashraf” (the account has since been deleted, the name may be a reference to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag developer Ashraf Ismail), posted the image seen above, saying:
Sh*t was spreading like a wildfire so who cares anymore.
Posting here was a mistake, hoped to get a glamorous leak article on Kotaku lol
The image shows someone, presumably the protagonist, controlling a boat near a town that seems to be in a desert. The player’s current mission is to “Eliminate the Crocodile,” presumably a high-ranking Templar in the area. All of this supports previous rumors that the game took place in Egypt, had naval combat, and featured the beginning of the Assassins.
Eurogamer is reporting that their sources note this is a legitimate image of the game, though no other info is known at this time.
Assassin’s Creed: Origins will reportedly launch sometime later this year for PC and consoles.
