Tekken 7 Will Get Two New Exclusive Guest Characters From Different Franchises

Bandai Namco has announced new guest character downloadable content for Tekken 7.

The two new characters will be added to the game post-launch as paid downloadable content, and they’ll be from other game franchises. That’s basically all we have to go off for now.

Bandai also talked up the game’s other post-launch DLC in a convenient schedule, including: a Summer 2017 DLC pack which offers a brand-new game mode and more than 50 new costumes, followed by a Winter 2017 and next Spring 2018 DLC packs that add the aforementioned guest characters (as well as special costumes for said characters and a special stage).

There’s also a season pass that gets you all three DLC packs, as well as 35 exclusive metallic costumes.

Previously, Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada confirmed that post-launch, paid DLC for the game will only include “special characters,” meaning classic fighters won’t be put behind a paywall. The game’s first confirmed guest character, Street Fighter’s Akuma, will be included in the base game.

Tekken 7 is launching across PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on June 2nd.

The season pass including the guest characters is not ideal, but at least they are open about it. Surely they’ll have to include classic characters like Anna and Lei before any guests.

  • They’ll be free.

  • As long as it doesn’t cost as much as the game itself, I’ll at least consider getting the season pass.

  • NukeA6

I just hope they don’t overdo it like Netherrealm is doing.

  • Mr0303

You sure about that? I find it highly doubtful that they’ll be free given that they are guest characters. Plus the article says “next Spring 2018 DLC packs that add the aforementioned guest characters” – I’d assume that since they are a part of the season pass they won’t be free.

“Previously, Tekken series producer Katsuhiro Harada confirmed that post-launch, paid DLC for the game will only include “special characters,” meaning classic fighters won’t be put behind a paywall. ”
This is what they kep saying. So if we’re getting Lei or Anna or Gon(:)) they will most likely be free.

  • Mr0303

I thought Token was talking about the guest characters and that they’ll be free.

Also Gon is not coming back. He was from a manga and Bamco don’t have the rights to him. If anything he could be one of the guest characters.

  • Mr.0303: I was referring to the returning characters. If you played TTT2, you’d know that any character that was added to that roster was also free. Thinking about it, I’m assuming that the guest characters are behind a paywall because some of the profits of those sales either go back to the owner of the IP or Namco paid a undisclosed amount of money to use said chartacters and is recuperating the cost.

  • Mr0303

I misunderstood your initial post. The Tekken series have been pretty good with DLC until now. We’ll see how they handle T7. Hopefully we’ll get said classic fighters at some point.

Agree with that.. Maybe like how DOA5 does its guest characters is a good example

  • NukeA6

DOA is different because Virtua Fighter is dead.

  • luggage lad

    but KOF isn’t

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

Big money on Soul Calibur and King of Fighters. Then again, they never said they were fighter franchises…

I hate that annoying little fuck with a passion. But he was good for a laugh or 2.
Still,I think they know it isn’t wise to make you pay for characters from previous games.I’d hate to be forced to pay for Feng for example. And I wouldn’t pay for Lei or Anna because I never was very interested in them to begin with.So they’d gain only backlash after backlash with very little financial gain. But if they add characters down the line for free,it will be a good way to keep new people coming in because they were only interested in the missing characters.

  • NukeA6

Oh damn, I forgot Mai was a guest character. But yeah Sega doesn’t seem to care about Virtua Fighter any more and it’s understandable since it always lacked the audience of the other big name fighters. What better place to put them than the only other series similar to it?

  • Greed

i would say King of Fighters will be perfect for Tekken 7 because kof characters can fight without their fireball projectile like Kyo,Iori, ect all had movesets that didnt have fireballs.

  • 2501

Virtua Fighter may have no scene in the west but it is far from dead. It is still the most dominant fighting game series in Japan. Also its been known that Sega takes their time developing a Virtua Fighter game, every new installment comes out in a new console/hardware cycle. VF6 will come out at the right moment.

  • Mr0303

Lei is the only one is is a glaring omissions – he’s been there since Tekken 2. The series have always been good when it comes to DLC, but this new trend with preorder bonuses and a season pass is a bit worrying.

  • Loli de 42 Anos

how about someone from Dead or Alive? that would be cool.

  • Loli de 42 Anos

there’s also Naotora from Dynasty Warriors (for… some reason).

  • scemar

    add pikachu from pokken lol

  • Pooh Hardy

Kiryu from yakuza and geese howard please…..PLEASE

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

I so hope it’s not Solid Snake or any character involving Metal Gear.
