RPG Roguelike Phantom Trigger Announced for PC

Publisher tinyBuild (who recently partnered with the developer of Yandere Simulator) and Divide By Sheep developer Bread Team have announced their latest title, a combat-heavy roguelike RPG called Phantom Trigger.

In Phantom Trigger you play as a man named Stan who has to fight his way through dark and twisted worlds. Featured above, you can view a new trailer for the game’s announcement.

Outside of this info and a trailer, nothing else has been revealed about the game, including if it will release on other platforms besides PC.

If you are interested, however, you can sign up for the alpha test here.

So…. how are they going to explain the looking nearly exactly like Hyper Light Drifter in looks and gameplay? Like, is “Blue dude with a facemask/scarf and magic going to be the next indie trope?

I really wouldn’t mind tho, HLD was great and made me actually wish there were more games like it.

But so closely like it though? Isn’t this kind of thing gamers shit on franchises like COD and others for?

  • Surely

COD is railed on for looking like itself for every iteration with very little actual change in-between.

I’d say this is moreso heavily inspired by hyper light drifter.

Heavy on the heavily inspired side. I’m seeing the same abilities and style of gameplay here. I’m not claiming HLD created all the mechanics in the game, but this game is going to get compared to HLD to its determent. Its not like Terraria to Starbound or Harvest Moon to Stardew Valley.

  • Surely

    How so?

Teleportation, Dash attacks, both protagonists make use of a blue beam sword for melee attacks. Both games have a very similar dark 16 bit aesthetics. They look like they play almost exactly the same and look almost exactly the same. I don’t know what’s confusing about this. This is like Overwatch Vs. Paladins kind of closeness.

Maybe it’s set in the same world?
