Stardew Valley Gets Multiplayer in 2017, Feature Hits Nintendo Switch First

Concernedape has announced their long-awaited multiplayer feature in Stardew Valley is finally coming sometime this year.

What’s more, the developer has confirmed the Nintendo Switch version of the game will be the first to get it. The game will be coming to the Nintendo Switch sometime this year.

Stardew Valley is currently available for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. In case you missed it, you can find my review for Stardew Valley here (I highly recommend it).

Well, this feels like kind of a dick move. The game sells gangbusters on PC, makes the guy a multi-millionaire, and the Switch is the one that gets co-op play first?

I have had this game sitting in my library unplayed for months now, waiting for that co-op mode to come, and I have several friends who weeks worth of hours in the game, who said they’d spend weeks on it all over again if co-op were to come to it.

I get that it’s not really an exclusivity thing, but the Switch getting it first is a kick in the balls for me. Fuck that.

  • SunsetHaste

I guess he assumed that if he’s making the Switch version, he might as well make the co-op for it first, since he’s already working under Switch’s hardware.

Good news, since it’ll be ready for Switch, it means that it’s only a matter of porting the feature, not still developing it! We’re gonna get it anyway, no big deal.

The loyal PC fanbase that got him here is not as important to him as Sweet Nintendo Bux, I guess.

  • Magnifico Ginormous

Devs will cuck to Nintendo to an absurd fault because of “muh childhood”.

When a game has an exclusive/first feature on PC, the audience goes:

When a game has an exclusive/first feature on a Xbox One , the audience goes:

When a game has an exclusive/first feature on PS4, the audience goes:

BUT. When a game has an exclusive/first feature on a Nintendo Console? The audience goes:

    >Complains about a system getting the feature first

God, it’s like PC users are prone to complaining about shit like this.

I’d understand it if maybe it wouldn’t reach the other platforms for a month or more, but so far it seems like he’s doing it for the switch because he’s doing a port for it anyways so might as well work out that multiplayer.

  • Magnifico Ginormous

Gee it’s almost like people don’t enjoy having promised features on a game that they helped make a success getting cucked out. If this happened with Xbone the response would be the same.

  • Fear Me I Am Free

Yeah, wasn’t multiplayer promised to PC when it was still just on there? Seems kinda fucked up that they don’t get it on there. I mean, PC is what made this game so huge.

  • SuuLoliBoob

    It’s only bad when it’s nintendo~

  • Riosine

Theres been a multiplayer Co-op mod in the nexus site for about a year, why can’t people complaining about this just get such mod while waiting for the official implementation later

  • OSad

Do you think the criticism is not warranted? This isn’t neglegible stuff like horse armor-esque content for a game, this is a significant gameplay change for one of the best-selling PC games in 2016, something that was promised a long time ago. Forgive the comparison if you don’t like the game, but it’d be like if Undertale got ported for a new Sony or Nintendo handheld, except the company paid to withhold a story expansion for existing platforms for a time to entice customers.

Yes, it makes sense from a development standpoint, kill two birds with one stone, except in this case it really doesn’t, since co-op was announced probably before people even knew what a Switch was, and the dev had plenty of time to get it done. Except he didn’t and he’s getting it done now, which is exactly why this smells so bad of corporate influence. Either way, from a consumer standpoint, it’s just a dick move to everyone who already bought your shit on one platform.

EDIT: And I have to reiterate before you or anybody else calls me a fanboy – there is absolutely nothing wrong with this being ported to the Switch or any other platform. My beef with it is promised features that make it to a platform before another for no apparent reason whatsoever.

  • SuuLoliBoob

Hey, i also remember when Corpse party was getting extra exclusive story for the steam release and how everyone was going crazy about it and how great it was. But then when they realized PS Vita will also get a few exclusive stories, people freaked the fuck out.

All i’m saying is how most PC users are fucking hypocrites. You get a bunch of exclusive games and all that shit, and still get pissed that Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo also get a few nice exclusives. And this is coming from a (Mainly) PC user.

  • a posing fedora

Just to clarify: the Switch Stardew Valley multiplayer announcement DOES NOT mean that PC will get multiplayer later. PC will still be first

  • OSad

    Well, now I’m REALLY confused.

  • Jack

It’s coming to PC first, and then to switch, so please update

  • catazxy

Grouping all the PC gamers into one blob with shared minds, and then calling them hypocrites.
    Great job.
And talking about “exclusive story bits” to only one platform, thats is shitty no matter the platform.

  • Travis Touchdown

I’ll probably buy it just to complain about how Rune Factory 4 is better.

  • Adohleas

They said the Switch will be the first “console” with multiplayer, not the first platform. I think gaming websites got confused by that message.

  • Himegami Aisa

When they promise new shit for PC ports PC fanboys they cheer and feel smug and when the opposite happens they go ballistic (same goes for every other flavour of fanboy, obviously). It’s that hypocrisy he was criticising.
