Xbox One Could Still Get Mouse and Keyboard Support

We’ve learned that Microsoft could still add mouse and keyboard support to Xbox One.

The news comes via Xbox boss Phil Spencer, who responded to a fan asking if Xbox One would get any PC peripheral support, specifically for mouse and keyboard, because of the upcoming launch for Halo Wars 2.

Spencer responded saying that “It won’t be there at launch but this is support we’d like to add as it comes to the Xbox platform.”

It’s worth pointing out that Spencer didn’t specify Xbox One, rather the Xbox brand as a whole. Still, it’s nice to see the company not ruling out a way to further bridge Windows 10 and Xbox as sibling platforms.

Halo Wars 2 is launching for Xbox One and PC on February 21st.

    Overwatch players salt.

I thought that thing already had built in kb/m support, but its simply disabled in the console bios, as evidenced by this is modded controller that just unlock it

  • Heresy Hammer

The console running the closest thing to real windows doesnt have keyboard or mouse support.

  • vonSanneck

So they are turning it into a weird PC/Console hybrid, sure. A MSX successor might be interesting.

So long as the mouse actually functions as a mouse and doesn’t just simulate a joystick (I can’t imagine games would natively support the inputs yet). At that point you’re better off sticking to your controller.

Ehhh I don’t think that works out very well, either they screw it up and its a horrible mouse acceleration mess, or they get it right and it just becomes a requirement and people who prefer using controllers are left out in the cold.

This will never happen. It would utterly destroy the online multiplayer market. The people with mouse and keyboard would dominate and make the people with controllers feel like shit. They’ll whine and complain to their friends and families and the next edition of Call of Duty or whatever will plummet in sales because there will be a public perception that you either play with a mouse and keyboard or you’re a worthless peasant. Microsoft will not shoot themselves in the foot like this. Better to stick with the controller and pretend the mouse and keyboard doesn’t exist.

    I don’t think so.
Won’t people just use the keyboard and mouse that they already own ?
Aren’t those like dirt cheap ?

Microsoft Office 365 College student edition?

They’re dirt cheap but for a lot of people they talk about how gaming is sitting on a couch with a controller, not sitting at a desk with a mouse and Keyboard. I know the AVGN talks a lot about that cause he does all his editing work at his computer its like being at work for him.

I sure as hell wouldn’t want to use my wired KB+M with my console. But even if both were wireless, my living room doesn’t have a desk or something more comfortable than a coffee table to rest them on, so it would be very awkward to use. I suspect I’m not alone in this.

Blizzard might stop supporting the Xbox version of Overwatch then.
