The Last Of Us Part II is Revealed for PlayStation 4

Sony Interactive Entertainment has announced The Last of Us Part II for PlayStation 4 at this year’s PlayStation Experience.

While Ellie and Joel are both in the game, Ellie is the main playable character – and she’s now 19 years old. Coming from this, the game takes place a few years after the original. While Ellie plays differently from Joel, there will be some things included that are described as evolutions, while other are reinventions.

Featured above, you can view the game’s announcement trailer. It’s also worth mentioning that Gustavo Santaolalla has returned to compose the sequel.

Creative director Neil Druckmann shared a message for the upcoming sequel:

I can’t tell you how satisfying it is to finally be able to say that Ellie and Joel are back for another intense, harrowing, and emotional adventure. Like many of you, we have a deep love for the world of The Last of Us and its characters, and while a sequel may have seemed like a foregone conclusion, that wasn’t the case. We knew that it needed to be a story worth telling and, perhaps more importantly, a story worthy of Joel and Ellie. After spending years on different ideas (and almost giving up), we finally uncovered a story that felt special—a story that evolved into an epic journey.

It’s still early days for the project—the game’s release is a ways off—but we couldn’t wait any longer to give you a glimpse of what’s to come. We’re going to let the trailer (coming soon to this post) speak for itself, but expect more information about The Last of Us Part II in the coming months.

Not really surprised this is getting a sequel but my god does that title bother me. Two “Last” of Us games existing… it’s like “Final” Fantasy all over again.

  • 2501

    Nope.

  • Mr0303

While I liked the original, with Naughty Dog’s recent progressive crap I’m not interested.

  • Jack

    Final Fantasy HAD a reason
    it no longer does

  • MusouTensei

And the most overrated game of *insert release year* is…

  • Minuteworld92

    BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

  • Nagato

    She looks like a lesbian.

    Would not bang.

  • Kiryu

    She is a lesbian.

  • catazxy

Uuuu, Is that Lincoln Clay? Are we rolling in basic revenge stories again? So publishers are really giving the smallest budgets to the story writers, now….

  • porkbun

I’m guessing this is a early 2020 game.

  • catazxy

Oh, yeah, I forgot what year is it…

  • My thoughts exactly. Neil Druckmann – as well as Naughty Dog in general – got under my skin ever since I saw that Grounded Mode documentary on the PS4 remaster. Uncharted 4’s controversy where someone was fired for alleged “racism” didn’t sit well with me at all, either.

  • Guest

I hope it has a plot more interesting than ‘revenge story in zombie apocalypse setting’.

  • Mr0303

Remind me – what did they say in the Grounded documentary?

They pissed me off with how terribly they handled the Last of Us DLC with the horrible virtue signalling.

Then there was the time Druckmann praised Anita Sarkeesian.

  • Mr0303

    *THE CURRENT YEAR*

  • Kiryu

Make revenge stories and then these same sjws whine about violence in video games, the hypocrisy is mindblowing.

  • They espoused how great it was to have such a strong, “empowered” woman in video games – at least, that’s what Troy Baker believes we’ve never really seen before (which is false, because he worked on Persona 4 and should therefore know about Naoto). All the actors are virtue-signalling spastics who drone on about “representation” like it’s the oxygen they need to breathe in order to live. And Druckmann is the biggest hypocrite – he repeats the same diversity mantra as his friends, yet still believes in meritocracy when it comes to finding the best voice for the role when he cast Laura Bailey as Ubermensch Empowered South African Lady in Uncharted 4? Cut the bullshit, I would say to him.

  • Mr0303

Yeah, most voice actors are regressive twats. After all Ashley Johnson was in that one anti-Trump commercial.

Druckmann is a SJW hypocrite. He spouted about diversity, but still hired one of his friends for the roles to play the token character as you said.

  • Minuteworld92

    fuck naughtydog

  • Minuteworld92

you don’t know that. xir could be bi

  • Great feminism the game is getting a sequel…

  • This is a SJW series so of course she is a lesbian and for a black female at that.

  • The first game was already progressive and a feminist game.

  • the Southerner

Amen. I was a fan until the DLC, which was pure virtue-signaling with its lesbianism. I think NG intended the original game to also be a vehicle for stronk-womyn and non-binaryism with the girl acting tough and cursing all the time, but it was too low-key for a sustained campaign, people expected the conditions of a post-apocalyptic world to force that, whereas the poz disease celebrates nonbinaryism as a choice of the individual, so people didn’t really get the connection as everyone was focused on the apocalypse. NG expected the gaming media to circulate the meme so that it would slowly trickle down to the audience but most of them didn’t even get it, and the stirring origins of Gamergate began stunting their legitimacy, so NG came out with that DLC to force feed the point.

  • ThatOneGuy

    >finds the time to get a tattoo in a post apocalyptic world
    ok

  • Mr0303

Not really. There was no preaching involved in it and no feminist motives.

  • Smug

    >make little girl a lesbian heroine seeking nigger pussy

  • Mr0303

That was in the DLC, not in the main game.

  • Minuteworld92

all because its dlc, it’s not cannon?

  • Minuteworld92

how would you get one if everyone’s dead?

  • the Southerner

There was but it was very subtle and well hidden, that’s why most people didn’t get it and Naughty Dog came out with the DLC to force home their intentions.

  • Mr0303

Where did I say that? I said that the main game didn’t include preaching and feminist motives, which is true. The DLC expansion on the other hand was a ham fisted piece of crap like I said below in my response to 3rdStrike_Ebi.

  • Mr0303

I wouldn’t say it had preaching. The writing was good enough to avoid a typical Mary Sue or focus on people’s sexuality for the sake of it.

  • the Southerner

Why do you think they came out with the DLC? Because most people didn’t notice their virtue-signaling. Naughty Dog wanted to go low-key and subtle with their feminism and blacksim to keep sales strong, and then release the DLC to catch those people who didn’t get the memo.

  • the Southerner

    because the current year

  • the Southerner

current year + 1 my friend

  • Mr0303

Eh, I don’t know about that. The DLC was always going to be there, but Neil Druckmann decided to virtue signal harder since he had complete creative control.

  • Jumanji Joe

I can’t wait for more tumblr pandering

  • Funtime Happysnacks

Why not call it “The Rest of Them” or something. “Part II”? Who do you think you are, The Godfather?

  • Dewey Defeats Truman

TLOU was a good game. Not an amazing one, but a good one.

It didn’t need a sequel. In fact I’d say having a sequel hurts the original game by proxy regardless of the sequel’s quality.

Man why the fuck can’t things just be one and dones?

  • ScarredBushido

Im more excited for the sfm porn.

  • Funtime Happysnacks

Because normalfags inexplicably worship TLOU as some pinnacle of storytelling for reasons beyond my comprehension. Maybe it was the cutscene graphics or some maternal attachment to Ellen Page, who knows.

It wasn’t any better written than your average Uncharted or Tomb Raider game, it just had really nice graphics and they gave Ellen big disney eyes.

I already see people on YT saying “no matter what else comes out that year this will be GOTY”, it is seriously disturbing how frothy these TLOU fans are

  • sanic

I hope elle hooks up with drakes sassy black child or whatever.

  • Uncle Ocelot

With how much people fellate Naughty Dog, they probably think they’re on the same level.

  • doog

For the amount of gay characters there seem to be in the tlou universe and that 60% of the world population is already dead. They should call this game none of us.

  • Funtime Happysnacks

The writing in Doom4 is legitimately more engaging than most modern game scripts, and most of the words in that game were “Hell”

  • BlueSkromanticies

I’ll never understand why this franchise was considered so great.

When I got my PS3 I made sure I had The Last of Us. Best reviewed game, 5 stars on Amazon….this must be amazing.

Booted up the game, a cinematography of some uncompelling story started, then when you finally got to play, it was some mediocre shooter.

Mind you, I don’t mind stories and cinematography in games, as long as it’s done right like in Beyond 2 Souls, but The Last of Us was just stupid.

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

Best time to get that kind of job, seems there’s always someone with them in such worlds.

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

Didn’t they say this was only gonna be one game?

  • Zanard Bell

Movies pretending to be games are out in full force for the next few years, I see.

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

Lesbian loli in a zombie apocalypse would’ve been enough to make me want it if I didn’t know better.

  • VLOCKUP

Agree. It was the game that saves Square’s ass from bankruptcy.

  • Ecolink

naughty dog fired their best writer. which as it happens was a woman who, now im generalising here and dont have evidence to back it up, got fired for not giving into the pc bullshit that was being shoved into uncharted 4. Brava naughty dog brava

  • Maria Maasaa

    People do it in prison

  • Zufield

But it’s the Citizen Kane of gaymen :^)

  • Zanthos

One of those guys that tries to find underlying narratives where they don’t exist aren’t ya?

  • the Southerner

One of those mouth-breathers that takes everything at face value, eh?

  • ProxyDoug

    Ellie is too old now ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

  • ProxyDoug

Revenge stories are all they can think of since their entire raison d’être is based off being a victim.

  • CoarseHock

As much as I don’t really give a shit about modern Naughty Dog games I think their animation/mocap team do great work. People don’t jitter from poor capturing, there’s actual expressions and they don’t do that ‘I’ve got to move and adjust myself every 0.5 seconds like I’ve got ants in my pants’ thing.

  • Lucky

You killed your argument when saying Beyond 2 Souls, with it’s dumb as shit David Cage plot, is cinematography done right.

  • Zanthos

Mouth breather? :D My nose works perfectly fine thanks. Your sleep apnea keeping you awake at 4:30am? But really now, sometimes there just isn’t a narrative to chase, you can calm your paranoia.

  • ScarredBushido

i rekon this is the reason amy henning left. it became less about making games and more Social shit + gameplay. she also work on a little bit of the last of us but it got scrapped i believe.

  • Zero Eternity

First I don’t like her singing, but that might be just me. Second, who keeps the dead bodies of their enemies right next to where they sleep, live or just sit there and sing to? As a triailer it is pretty terrible logic even for science fiction.

  • the Southerner

    >muh paranoia
    stay braindead, friendo.

  • Kaihaku

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one who immediately wondered about that.

  • Guin

Is it weird that I only give a shit about generic post apocalyptic zombie game because of one of the few actual qt 3DPD in existence?

  • Zanard Bell

I just realized it’s now close to [CURRENT YEAR + 2].

  • Nazzaroth

probably the most boring storyextension they could have come up with. a revenge plot… like its not done a billion trillion times already…

  • John Smith.

I like the last of us somewhat until the game decided to throw too much asspull at me.

How does a horde of fungus infected “Zombies” survive in the dead of winter without clothes?

Why do I have to go into the zombie infected store for a plot coupon to cross a wall when I could crawl up a similar sized wall just five minutes ago?

  • John Smith.

Of course she was fired, she’s a white woman you know.

There was far too much privilege in her.

  • John Smith.

I just can’t seem to care about this game or anything else Naughty Dog produces anymore.

  • Funtime Happysnacks

    “muh cinematic experience”

  • Funtime Happysnacks

if i were a competent female writer looking at that UC4 nadine fight i would also be kind of offended.

  • John Smith.

Not much of a cinematic experience to talk off when over half of the actual gameplay game is spent crouching behind cover and the other half is spent mashing the same button to win each damn fight.
