Siege Of Dragonspear Writer Amber Scott Leaves Beamdog

According to a recent post on Trent Oster’s twitter account, lead writer and Siege of Dragonspear scribe Amber Scott has left Beamdog. Though Oster points to a long distance move being behind her departure, the poor reception of the game and the controversy that surrounded its script may have possibly played a role.

One interesting thing to note concerning Siege of Dragonspear and its story is that Beamdog stated that the transgendered character Mizhena was to receive an expanding of her background which would help her better fit into the game world’s lore, yet no such change has been made as of yet. Scott’s departure may make that promised change even less likely.

Siege of Dragonspear also has the problem of its failure to deliver on the collector’s edition of the game, which has been delayed on multiple occasions and still, as of this writing, has not been shipped out to purchasers. Posters concerned about its shipping date were referred to Scott, which may present a problem considering she is no longer there to address the issue.

The downside is that Dee Pennyway still works/writes for them, so we can’t expect Beamdog’s writing to suddenly mature.

Not that anyone is expecting that anyway.

    good news

  • Mr0303

Despite that Beamdog’s reputation is already in the trash and I don’t think it’ll recover any time soon. SJWs are bad for business.

  • Daryl Corey

This isn’t really something to celebrate. If they had fired her or even better dragged her way to the north put her on a chunk of ice and set her adrift now those would be things to celebrate

  • Didney Worl
  • Thanatos

Oh no, what a horrible loss. But where is she going now? Your favorite franchise could be ruined *cough* I mean “modernized” next!

  • Random Dude

hit piece incoming in 5 minutes….

  • No_Good_Names_Ever

    Ridley Scott, she was not.

  • Kiryu

    lol

  • Fear Me I Am Free

She was a shitty writer and political ideologue. I’m glad she won’t be screwing up the BG stuff anymore. Though, the way Beamdog handled the DS stuff, they will probably hire someone equally bad or worse.

  • Bob Smith

May her big ass never go near another game industry job again.

  • Mr_SP

Wait, they still haven’t shipped the Collector Editions? Wow. That’s… I’m kinda thankful I didn’t buy one, then.

  • FreshSnug

A transgender character in a medieval fantasy game? Yeah. Yeah that makes sense.

Also “her.” Chopping your dick off doesn’t make you a woman anymore than taking hormones. It makes you a deluded, dickless man with bigger man tits.

  • Wasn’t Amber Scott the one who told us to “deal with it” or something along those lines regarding her abuse of power to enforce censorship into the game?

Good riddance to this SJW/feminist cunt. Authoritarian bigots like this should remain jobless until they change their ways of respecting and accepting the video games industry for what it is.

And even if they change I still wouldn’t trust them.

  • “Though, the way Beamdog handled the DS stuff, they will probably hire someone equally bad or worse.”

You can almost guarantee that. Even though the SJW has left, Beamdog themselves have also acted the cunts towards the fans by employing this asshole in the first place.

  • She’d be perfect for Capcom.

  • Yeah. Expect the likes of Kotaku, Polygon, Mary Sue, Jezebel, etc. crying sexism and misogyny over this soon.

  • Feniks

    The market speaks.

  • Feniks

Sadly Beamdog bought the rights :(

  • tetrisdork

Forget Capcom. Let her move to Konami. That’s like Roman Reigns squared in terms of the heat.

  • MusouTensei

She’s perfect for Bioware, because she sucks.

  • Neppers

Bioware will probably snatch her up. They already had a tranny running around in Dragon Age 3, she’d be perfect for them.

  • Lord Vector

I’m never going to purchase another Beamdog game again and I’m glad I was able to get a refund for the collectors edition. I hate them for what they did to one of my favorite franchises.

  • Didney Worl
  • Neojames82

Still will be a shit company but I guess it is about 10% less shitty now.

  • John Smith

i’m sure one of her cronies will pick her up. its how it works with these cockroaches.

  • alterku

I believe they still have gaider, so the corruption probably runs all the way to the core.

  • DrearierSpider

Shit tier writer leaves shit tier company. Fuck em, the Beamdog name is pure taint to me.

  • Meittimies

Have they fixed the issues with the game itself by now? Like the non-functioning multiplayer and save-destroying glitches?

  • Thanatos

Ha, they aren’t even making any games that aren’t Resident Evil, Street Fighter, or Monster Hunter. No need for any writing!

  • Zanard Bell

Don’t look to where she left, look to where she’s going to, as she’s going to destroy that company from within, too.

“One interesting thing to note concerning Siege of Dragonspear and its story is that Beamdog stated that the transgendered character Mizhena was to receive an expanding of her background which would help her better fit into the game world’s lore”

SJW’s always double down on their mistakes

  • Random Dude

The stupid thing isn’t trans-in-medieval-fantasy; It’s complete, utter redundancy. (Mages can just cast sex-change spell)

  • totenglocke

Nah, send her to Konami. Let her make SJW pachinko machines.

  • totenglocke

Just like they blamed sane white men when Alison Rapp was fired for hooking on the side.

  • NuclearKangaroo

i would be more happy if she just worked on her writing and constrait when it comes to politics, rather than leaving the company outright

  • Alistair

They sacked her too late the damage is already done and other SJWs work there.

Only bankruptcy and make it so is the only way we get into they thick stupid heads. “why what did we do wrong” “why all the boycotting and hate” when they sign on the dole.

And we say its because you put “social justice in you games” Plus you didnt have fate for the rating boards & Self-Censored yourselves. Is the only way to get though to them.

  • totenglocke

She posted on the forums that it’s her intention to put as much SJW shit as possible into the games she works on. There’s no redeeming her.

  • Joe Gamer

But what host creature will she infect next? That is the important question.

  • Unseelie Sluagh

    HA
    HA
    HA

  • Aww. Are you hurt that one of your fellow SJWs have been denied an opportunity to promote and enforce her bigotry?

    You’re not fooling anyone.

  • Would bankruptcy really sort them out though? Don’t forget that companies like Beamdog chose to employ the bigot in the first place.

If they go bankrupt, someone will probably buy the company, and I believe they’ll again pander and hire more SJWs.

It now seems that money may not be the be-all and end-all when it comes to the issue of video games culture. Developers and companies will look at the current trends, and they’ll do this by looking at the mainstream games media. And that’s basically the scumbag sites like Kotaku, Polygon, NeoGAF, IGN, etc. who are constantly licking the crust off Anita Sarkeesian’s anus ring-piece.

The only way you can get rid of SJW/feminist ideology from developers/companies is if you stop the mainstream games media from promoting that bullshit.

  • Exactly. Yet more reason not to be a GG Moderate.

Also it’s been a while since I’ve seen you around by the way…

  • You’d think that the next company who will employ this maggot will have seen what happens if a SJW gets on board right?

But they won’t, because what they see is the mainstream games media like Kotaku, Polygon, NeoGAF, etc. promoting this SJW/feminist rubbish, and thus they can get a lot of PR points if they employ Scott.

You know, “Hey look at us! We’re employing a woman! This means that we’re not sexist and we fight the wage gap and patriarchy! We are so cool now!”

  • Probably too busy designing a transsexual half-cast black and Asian midget in a wheelchair character with Down’s Syndrome for their next project.

  • It does indeed but it won’t change their ways though.

  • When it suits them, it doesn’t have to make sense whatsoever. They’ll insert and enforce their idea into it no matter what.

However when it DOESN’T suit them – like a sexy female character with bikini armor in a medieval setting – that’s when they’ll whine and cry about how it doesn’t make sense because “there’s no armor to protect her”. Which is of course, one the most bullshit excuses for censorship.

  • Indeed. Or a company/developer seeking a lot of PR points.

I mean, what else could possibly gain more PR points than employing a woman who’s been a victim of the evil straight white male patriarchy?

  • Even if they didn’t, they’ll probably just find and employ another SJW.

  • larverto365
  • FreshSnug

Can mages cast spells that make themselves younger too? I want to be a teenage girl, because being a little girl would suck. Teenager however, would be just right.

  • SiliconNooB

I don’t expect that tranny’s dialogue to ever be fixed given that it is pointless to continue working on an irredeemable turd.

  • SiliconNooB

Dragon Age 3 was a properly abysmal game!

  • It’s thanks to devs like Beamdog and BioWare that you can’t trust a decent cRPG to get fucked over by SJWisms. Only cRPG I truly care about is Divinity: Original Sin II, and who knows if that’ll get raped.

  • Random Dude

Dunno about that, I never played Baldur’s Gate or any oldschool CRPG before. (only heard about the polymorph spell thing from reddit, yes yes I know I’m not a true PC gamer blah-blah-blah)

  • Derek

And people say we don’t harass SJWs outta gaming. Well that’s one down, so many more left to run out.

  • Alistair

That very naive considering she abuse the gamers & making out she hell bent on more social justice in games.

What did she say to gamers in her post again I forget. Maybe just maybe she set up her own studio & use Kickstarter to make her own batch of social justice games.

You would welcome that & me too, then they leave our games alone.

  • Derek

In that case I agree that making sure she is harassed out of gaming is the lesser evil

  • Social Justice needs to be fucking nuked from video games.

Actually scratch that. Social Justice needs to be fucked nuked from all of entertainment media.

  • Wow. A cuck AND a moral-compass Moderate. I feel for you man.

And you have the gall to say “we”, implying that you’re against censorship. lol

  • Alistair

You can know who is 1 of them a SJW you can simply watch a news report.

The word “social Justice” was mention by the PM may and Osborne before that. So what is social justice?

Is it good or bad? answer both its good when not forced upon on. Equal pay good, the living wage equals more cash that good too.

Anything that doesn’t fuck up your life is good.

Now the Bad dose of it this part effects freedom of expression & Speech, that tie to moral and SJWs abuse of social justice.

Let all agree that freedom of expression & Speech in some form will hurt your feelings and everything you watch, listen or play. Will may or may not hurt your feelings what would you do. If i dont like gabbage that trigger me. Dont like classical music too i wont listen to that crap.

That is a normal response right. So what is a unnormal response, the SJWs way of course they could say classical music is shite and its the devil and im a shitlord to listen to it but hang on i said i hated classical music.

In short im saying it doesn’t matter if i hate or like classical music the choice is done by me no third party. Then the abuse of social justice they use that as a sword and sheild, to strike of criticism & Hide behind it.

They are over abuse of social justice for they angenda and that is bad.

  • Alistair

But you know all that already but it in writing so they sorry excuses cant be use against us.

  • Blocking people on the Internet because I hurt his fee-fees, lol. Which is course, simply more evidence of Derek being the SJW cuck he is. :^)

  • “Now the Bad dose of it this part effects freedom of expression & Speech, that tie to moral and SJWs abuse of social justice.

They are over abuse of social justice for they angenda and that is bad.”

This is correct and is the problem I have with Social Justice.

Social Justice is a movement / operation that encourages and breeds irrational mob mentality, which leads to bullying via lynch mobs. It’s like Twitter, a system which also encourages the above.

Modern feminism is a perfect example of the abuse of Social Justice. Nowadays it seems to only be used as a tool to do nothing but bully, harrass and shame the victim/target to destory his/her life.

And that is why I’ve never been a fan of SJ. It’s given the authoritarian bigots a platform. The bad far outweighs the good in it.

  • Alistair

Now you twisting my words back at me so now you are applying that harassed is a lesser evil didnt say that.

So you saying being sacked is harassed but of course she a woman and being sacked is sexist, mysogist harassement of women.

But wait i just thought of someting the company that sacked her is 1 of them a SJW they fired 1 of them own. Funny that.

Here me thinking they singing from the same sheet. As beamdog let it be known it feel akward that the characters was coming across too sexist.

  • Alistair

I forgot to put the lynch-Mobs in its also very important as well, doxing name calling, & let your company know your mysogist views.

SJWs love to use that as a result people are sack from it. Im surprise no one is being serious hurt from lynch-Mobs. But they have a real fright when swat teampounce on them. Unfortunately it did end bad someone got killed from it.

Here the kicker i thought SJWs are the moral gods and goddess to protect us from ourselves.

You need to be consistent at all times. That be moral to others. SJWs are anything but that they are inconsistent lot. Called them out they moral goes out of the window.

Calling names, doxxing and being nasty temper.

  • Correct. And this is reason why I want SJWs nuked.

No matter how hard I try, I simply cannot think of any redeeming features about them whatsoever.

  • Ubrokemygrill?

What franchise will they raise from the dead for her to rape next?

  • FreshSnug

I’ve never played them either, neither do I care whether or not I’m considered a pc gamer or not. As far as I’m concerned I’m on my own side. I take no pride in inclusion.

  • NuclearKangaroo

well i can always hope people eventually realize how retarded they are acting and change their ways

if you have the irresistible urge to put politics in your games, there are far less hamfisted ways to do so, and never do it on top of someone else’s property, specially one so beloved by fans as baldur’s gate

  • NuclearKangaroo

“WHATS THIS?! YOU DONT WANT TO LYNCH MINORITIES!? YOU MUST BE ONE OF DEM SJWSSSS!!!”

like ive told you dumbass, reality is hardly as simplistic as a matter of us vs them, besides i hate to come off as a hypocrite, so i cannot bring myself to be happy about someone losing their job because of the cotent they decided to put in their game, when i know some devs SJWs have attacked in the past found themselves in a similar situation

the way i see it, i gain more by having a dev that reforms and stops hamfisting politics than by having one less dev in the industry… unless that dev is someone like EA

  • rBeowulf

    “””””writer”””””

  • rBeowulf

They’re so corrupted I think their story is written by Chris Metzen.

  • Michael St Jacques

Good… her arrogant Social Control writing was off the charts. Sucked being called a racist and the other Social Control Justice she coded in Siege of Drag-Queens. I hope this isn’t the future we are facing with more female Coders getting involved with PC Gaming.

  • Bernfried Jablonski

    You suck as well.

  • Nikola Avramov

The damage was done to the franchise, unfortunately.

  • Nikola Avramov

She had more opportunity to shine in the recent years than Chris Avellone and Hideo Kojima.
    What does that tell you?

  • NuclearKangaroo

that shes not a good writer, that much is obvious, doesnt mean she cannot improve, i believe most people can improve if they actually fucking try, she however seems to be too fixated on politics, which is why i said i was hoping she would cut that shit out and learn to write better

  • Nikola Avramov

Have you really considered the fact that Chris Avellone and Hideo Kojima are out of business while she was in?
Have you really considered that fact?

She got to ruin a major, beloved franchise. If “Siege of Dragonspear” were brilliant – the much beloved Baldur’s Gate would have had a future.

If she wants to practice writing – she shouldn’t do it with an already established franchises, especially not as a lead writer.
You practice by doing brilliant with samples and minor tasks.
She RUINED TWO major, beloved franchises.
TWO BRILLIANT gemstones that had great future.

With PROVEN GENIUSES OUT of the industry – how can ANYONE in their right mind say that a PROVEN disaster should be let to “practice” and “improve” AFTER DESTROYING two precious IPs??

Baldur’s Gate didn’t have a sequel for 15 years! I know 25+ people who would’ve instantly bought a decent sequel. All it would take is for it to be just as good in writing and that’s it. They would’ve bought a sequel in Infinity engine, no problem.
Baldur’s Gate was initially wrecked by ridiculous Black Isle policy of scrapping great games and replacing them with half-baked dumbed-down games expecting it to sell.
They went bankrupt and nobody touched precious IPs. Not Icewind Dale, not Fallout, not Planescape: Torment.
    They’ve had GEMS laying around.
Bethesda bought Fallout and turned it into something different. The quality of writing went downwards, while a very good sequel was scrapped for a Fallout 3 that was just a recycling of the old with FPS graphics.
Baldur’s Gate was HUGE in its day.
It literally revived RPGs while there were none to be had, around.
If it wasn’t for Baldur’s Gate, we wouldn’t have seen Mass Effect, Dragon Age, KOTOR nad maybe not many MMOs out there. Hell – whether anyone would’ve invested in MMORPGs is questionable.
Producers were scared of RPGs back then.
    That’s Baldur’s Gate’s legacy.
With SUCH a legacy – ALL it would take for Siege of Dragonspear is to be decent. Nothing more.

Now NOBODY will invest in it.
    Black Isle WON’t recover.
NOBODY will see a sequel to Baldur’s Gate. EVER.
How is that a “she’ll improve with time” thing?
LEGENDS of game design are out of work. People that turn scripts into magic aren’t trusted with writing for future games.

Games, like all art, are about PASSION.
Without it, you get Dragon Age: Inquisition. It has masterful graphics, it had a huge budget… and that’s it.
It’s soulless. You can’t drive yourself to like it. To live it. And it has all the elements on the outside.

    Amber Scott has bad judgement.
She said that Jaheira in Baldur’s Gate comes off as a “nagging wife”. No. At worst she gets boring for her sadness. But nobody in her right mind sees her as nagging – she loses her husband, violently loses him. In all other aspects she comes off as strong and honorable. The character is that of a noble warrior-woman.
This demonstrates a severe lack in assessing characters as more than on object of a twitter rant.

  • Nikola Avramov

I believe that’s too hopeful, since there’s no sign of understanding of what she did.
There are great, proven game writers out there.
She ruined two major beloved franchises, one of which definitely won’t be coming back, in spite of millions of hopeful fans.
She made those mistakes 10+ years ago, when she managed to make bad D&D 3 adventures in spite of all the editor’s clear instructions and abundance of learning material that’s out there.

That Jaheira comment… that’s not something a good writer would say. Jaheira was clearly a strong, noble character. Saying she was a “nagging wife” demonstrates narrow-mindedness.
A writer can’t afford to think like that. They do it – they produce crap.

  • NuclearKangaroo

im not saying she should be allowed near well beloved IPs for the time beng, but if she started to practice her writing, for real, on new untested IP and hopefully IMPROVE there, i see that as a net gain

  • Nikola Avramov

    Two sagas destroyed?
She’d need a streak of miracles, ASSUMING she’s good, and apparently she’s very bad.
Watch on Youtube how Tim Cain created Fallout, just for a reference on what’s at stake when creating sequels of good IPs.
Just how many precious, fantastic IPs do you know about, out there?
Hell – Dune hasn’t seen a proper computer game for a while, and it has tons of great material.
    What does that tell you?

  • NuclearKangaroo

but im not saying she should be allowed to touch beloved franchises, only that if she actually TRIES and manages to IMPROVE on a new IP, its a net gain

the industry is not a zero sum game, i dont think we “gain” anything from anybody quitting, we do gain if people working within the industry stop acting like hacks and assholes

  • Nikola Avramov

It’s a sum game that is closer to zero than infinite.
There are only so many productions that can be mustered.
You’ve got experts in various relevant specializations. Media space. The audience can take only so much.
And of course – money. Budgets.
Which is why I mentioned Kojima and Chris Avellone.
Proven masters of the art are not being allowed to even continue expanding their own sagas.
That’s an indicator at just how much the game is not really infinite sum.

  • NuclearKangaroo

no its not a zero sum game, otherwise i wouldnt be able to enter the industry unless someone else got out

besides kojimbo and chris’ condition wont change regardless of what amber scott decides to do, so really its pointless to bring em up

  • Nikola Avramov

I believe it is, to a degree.
There’s only so much public space, publicity, budgets and gamers’ budget for buying games. Only so many productions, experts. And the audience’s attention isn’t limitless.

Of course, if she were to think of new IPs more precious than those two sagas – sure!
It would be an epic achievement, though.

  • NuclearKangaroo

but thats the thing, entertainment that is not consumed is simply lost, so Tyranny and Divinity Original Sin 2 are not worse RPG just because Amber is still working in some game

this is why video games are not a zero sum game, as long as she doesnt touch beloved franchises anymore, i say she should keep trying to improve

  • Nikola Avramov

I hear only good things about Tyranny.
I can’t say how much of the credit is due for Amber herself (not having researched into it).

As for Amber’s work, the major reference on it is, I believe, a criticism detailing the flaws of her published Pathfinder adventure.
Were it true (I haven’t read it yet, but I am curious because I love analyzing D&D adventures) it shows a systematic flaw in approach to writing.
And that is single-mindedness that overlaps the theme, scope and function of the creative writing work at hand.
I did work as a ghost writer and a script doctor.
All of that lead me to suspect that she has a detest for structure and keeping the goal/function/idea in mind.
That is a severe setback in creative writing, in general, and I generally don’t expect much good material to come from a writer that doesn’t outgrow this.

To be honest, I wouldn’t be half as sad over this were great authors like the aforementioned two pushed aside.
For what reason or purpose – I can only speculate, not being a party in such processes.
I highly advice giving the unpublished “Van Buren” project (Fallout 3 that never was) and a glimpse at just what Fallout 2 achieved as references as to how much a good writer can do to make a game memorable and… a legend, really.
Admittedly, Fallout 2 was my first RPG and the first “serious” computer game I’ve played, so I might be overly subjective about its qualities.

she didnt work on it, its an obsidian game, thats my point, she leaving the industry or not, does not affect the quality of titles unrelated to hear, however if she improves, we only gain

  • Nicholas Morgan

Out of curiosity, is this Amber Scott the Amber E. Scott who’s worked on Pathfinder?

Edit: I did some research and found they are different people.

  • Nikola Avramov

    They are?
I remember someone saying they’re the same, and that the work on Pathfinder and the work on Dragonspear about the same.

  • Nicholas Morgan

Are they? Okay. I must have seen a picture of the wrong person. It’s weird. There are trans characters who aren’t made a big deal of in the setting except it’s only mentioned briefly as part of their backstory. The SJWs must have MUCH less pull over at Paizo.

  • Nicholas Morgan

Girdle of gender reversal. I think that’s what it’s called. Not certain. It requires remove curse to restore the genderbent’s original gender. There was wasted potential with the trans character though. Maybe make a quest to transmute the trans person entirely. I mean, if I recall correctly, it takes powerful magic to fully make someone the opposite gender, with working reproductive systems. Could have made a quest about that. Potential squandered in favor of putting them there for agenda alone, without thinking of how to make them feel organic.

  • Nikola Avramov

No, no. You may be right, all the same.
I assumed it’s the same person, given they always emphasize how she’s got a D&D adventure writing background.
If you google about it, you’ll find complaints about her Pathfinder work on Reddit.
Didn’t read it yet, but if the complaints are true it demonstrates a pattern: all agenda, no craft.

  • Nicholas Morgan

I just know Amber E. Scott wrote Blood of Angels. I didn’t mind it. I’ve made an angel blooded Aasimar Paladin for a game which never really took off but he is willing to let me use him in a later game. Rolled great stats for him. Three 18s, a 14, a 12 and an 11.

Hey, if you complained about any of the Beamdog stuff, right or wrong, go buy Pillars of Eternity. Great CRPG without any mention of ethics in anything. Except maybe in ruling a town, i.e. Kolsc or Lord Readric. And the ethics of souls. I’m kind of losing my point here, but you know what I mean.

    Did so.
    So far, I prefer Tyranny.

It’s fine to have a preference, doesn’t make Pillars not a great game. I don’t know why but there seems to be a little bit of “mine is better” attitude between fans of these two games, both made by Obsidian. It’s completely unnecessary.

    I won’t mention which I preferred.
