BioShock director Ken Levine’s next game (via Wired) isn’t exactly a game – it’s a live-action film based on the classic sci-fi series, The Twilight Zone, one that will “explore the spaces between movies and games.”
Fans will be able to decide what the characters do, leading to new opportunities at interactive fiction. This is made possible by tech provided by media company Interlude.
“Playing my games, you can probably tell Twilight Zone is something I grew up with,” Levine said. “They speak to a larger truth. They’re morality plays, fables, and often they’re about a character who is going through an experience that’s central to their life but also speaks to a larger part of the human condition. I don’t think [Rod] Serling, at the beginning, set out to be a science-fiction writer. But he found that this is a great medium to do metaphor.”
It’s worth mentioning this is not the traditional game that Levine has been quietly yet teasingly working on at publisher Take-Two Interactive, where he says his team is “working diligently” on the game. This is more of a side project.
“Most people spend time with their kids or go on vacation,” Levine said. “I do stuff like this.”
