Following last night’s report that Konami has shuttered their Los Angeles-based development studio, the company has officially confirmed the decision to shut down Konami LA Studio.

In a statement made to Polygon, the company said the reasoning behind the studio’s closure was that resources were being “restructured.” From the statement:

“Konami has made the decision to close its Los Angeles Studio, effective immediately, due to the product development resources being restructured into a more centralized unit,” Konami said in the statement.

“This facility contributed to the recent Metal Gear Solid games. Konami will continue its operations to support all Metal Gear Solid titles, including the recently launched Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and Metal Gear Online. Metal Gear Online is still scheduled to release for PC Steam in January 2016.”

It’s worth pointing out the company made no mention of any layoffs in this restructuring – while the original report was anywhere between 20-35 jobs lost, possibly more.
