We’ve learned an animated series based off the Castlevania franchise is happening.

The animated series is going to be produced by Frederator, the studio behind TV shows like “Adventure Time,” “Bravest Warriors” and “Fairly OddParents.” Producer Adi Shankhar, who is heading the project, announced the news over on his Facebook page.

Known for his work producing movies like “Dredd” and shorts like “Punisher: Dirty Laundry” and “Power/Rangers,” Shankhar thinks an animated series for Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse will succeed, where a long rumored live-action adaptation never happened.

He also intends on making the animated series “super violent.”

“I’m producing a super violent Castlevania mini-series with my homies Fred Seibert and Kevin Klonde. It’s going to be dark, satirical, and after a decade of propaganda it will flip the vampire sub-genre on its head.”

Coming from this, Shankhar is looking to shake up what society, and more specifically, America has been exposed to when it comes to vampire fiction. The real question is just how much violence and gore will the series have?

“There will be a lot. The goal is to bring hard hitting anime to the America and be America’s first animated series for adults,” said Shankhar. When he was asked for influences for the series’ tone and style, he mentioned classic anime pieces like Ghost in the Shell, Akira, Ninja Scroll, and more.

How is this official animated series happening, with all the chaos surrounding Konami proper? Apparently, the folks at Frederator acquired the rights to produce this adaptation based on Castlevania “years ago.”

The series will focus on protagonist Trevor Belmont and his adventures seen in the game Castlevania III: Dracula’s Curse. Trevor wields the iconic Vampire Killer, and will be accompanied by Sypha Belnades, and Alucard, Dracula’s son.

A release was not given, but we’ll keep you guys posted.
