Gamestop has announced that it is refocusing it’s attention to the mobile space, while also closing a bunch of stores around the world.  In total, at least 120 stores will be shutting down, and the company will be ramping up for what they’re calling “Gamestop 3.0.”

Company CEO Paul Raines gave a talk at the Gamestop 2014 Investory Day, and he was quoted by Games Industry International in regards to the Gamestop 3.0 plan. Apparently, it’s a pretty serious shift for the company, as it’s being posed as “a new phase of the company’s lifespan that will see it aggressively expand its footprint into gaming-adjacent tech fields,” according to the source.

Coming from this, Gamestop will be setting their sights on the mobile scene, more specifically Apple branded machines like the iPhone and iPad. Gamestop’s own brands, like Simply Mac and Spring Mobile will continue forward into the fiscal year in an attempt to realize Raines’ goals mentioned at the conference.

Lastly, the official numbers for store closures number between 120 and 130 stores, which equates to roughly 2% percent of it’s nearly 6,500 global brick and mortar stores.
