Pillars of Eternity is Delayed, New Date is Unconfirmed

When Project Eternity was on kickstarter, they had a tentative release date set for this Spring, and while it was not a solid release window to begin with, many fans have still been left in the dark regarding the actual release date for the game. The game they came to develop, Pillars of Eternity grew to such a size that it has only recently been confirmed to be delayed.

Project Lead Josh Sawyer spoke to Eurogamer about the current state of the game, saying that due to the game’s crazy successful kickstarter campaign that raked in roughly $3.9 million dollars, it had to be made into a bigger game world. You can find the pertinent quote regarding the delay of the game below:

“It’s understandable that people don’t know this, but when you start a Kickstarter, once it goes live, you can’t change that [estimated release] date. You’re not allowed to change to that date. We got almost four-times as much money and that’s a much bigger game, and that doesn’t mean that immediately we just dump four-times as many people on it and it also gets done in April. There’s a lot more stuff to do.”

The game is currently in an alpha build, and comfortably sitting at 50% percent completion. Unfortunately, if you were hoping for some sort of tease for a release date, you won’t be getting one – at least not until the game is finished. When the game is finally completed, it will release via Steam Early Access, with other platforms to come later.
