The nebulous cross-platform game that Sony showed off at their E3 presser years ago is no more, according to a source from IGN. After many rumors, supposed video/doc leaks, the game appears to have been quietly cancelled:
“Sony Computer Entertainment can confirm that Warrior’s Lair for PS Vita is no longer in development,” a Sony representative told us. “We apologize to those who pre-ordered the title and ask that they contact their retailer directly to cancel their pre-sale.”
The representative went on to say that, “The line-up of PS Vita first-party and third-party content remains strong with more than 85 titles scheduled to launch for the system by the end of 2013 including Killzone: Mercenary, Tearaway, Doki Doki Universe, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate, Flower, The Walking Dead, and more.”
This news isn’t as much of a shock considering the original developer, Idol Minds, had been taken off the project roughly a year ago and Sony San Diego had been tasked to finishing the game. Following this news, the game slipped back into development hell and Sony has apparently finally decided to cancel it.
This is a pretty disappointing move in my opinion as the game looked promising and was a showcase for their crossplay/save tech, plus it would have been a game to make the Vita/PS3 dynamic shine. Instead of trying to finish the game (while it looked pretty polished), they have decided to give it the axe. The game really looked polished/close to being finished in my opinion, if this leaked developer video is any indication:
