Stardock has Revealed Sorcerer King, Now on Steam Early Access

Stardock Entertainment has revealed a new game in the form of Sorcerer King.

The 4X strategy title is already available on Steam Early Access, and it switches up the typical 4X mechanics by putting you into the task of stopping a singular, overwhelming evil from wiping out the world. Featured above, you can view a cinematic teaser trailer for the game.

In the game, a doomsday counter is always ticking down as players are expanding their own kingdoms and amassing enough warriors to stop the Sorcerer King’s dastardly plans. You have to recruit champions, expand your kingdom, and craft various magical weapons to help you turn the tide of battle.

“Sorcerer King is a new model for 4X games,” said Derek Paxton, Vice President of Stardock Entertainment in a press release. “Instead of competing against equal players, you’re behind the eight ball trying to stop the Sorcerer King and his minions from destroying the world. It’s strategy gaming under a guillotine.”

Sorcerer King is currently in beta, and you can already purchase it on Steam Early Access at a discounted price of $33.99. The full game is planned for the spring of 2015.

Sounds like it could be fun to play, but whoo boy is that art style unimpressive. They could not have made it look more like a bland Lord of the Rings/World of Warcraft knock off if they’d tried. I know they’re kind of just the standard, easily identified tropes by now, but I really wish developers would put a little more creativity into their fantasy settings.
