In strange yet unfortunately news, Sony has issued a DMCA takedown against one of the most popular Bloodborne fan-patches.
The patch is known as Bloodborne 60 FPS patch, named due to its being able to run the game at a framerate of sixty frames per second, rather than the thirty second per framerate of the official game release.
What makes this particular DMCA takedown so unusual is the fact that the higher-ups at Sony had been aware of the patch for years and had seemingly been fine with its existence, since it was released way back in 2021.
As modder of the patch Lance McDonald recounted, sometime ago he met with former PlayStation official Shuhei Yoshida, and proceeded to tell him all about the 60 FPS patch. Mr. Yoshida, to his credit, was amused and seemed impressed.
It is not as if fans of Bloodborne would be fooled into thinking the patch was official, as players had to “jailbreak” their PS4 and take a couple more steps just to access the patch. Fans who played the patch were for the most part impressed, which is why the 60 FPS patch is to this day the most popular fan patch.
Now, that patch is no more. Developer Lance McDonald posted to social media platform X announcing that he had complied fully with the DMCA takedown and had removed all links to the patch from the internet.
Bloodborne was released only for PlayStation 4 nearly a decade ago, in 2015. Get our review here!
