Shin Megami Tensei V Characters and Magatsuhi Skills Detailed

Shin Megami Tensei V

Atlus have revealed more information about upcoming JRPG Shin Megami Tensei V, including characters and new battle mechanics.

As previously reported, the plot centers around a Japanese teenager entering another world where God is dead; and a new being promises the world can be reborn from the old. The main character fuses with a mysterious man to become Nahobino, something that is considered forbidden, and begins their rampage across this new world.

The new Japanese trailers (which feature English subtitles) highlights the new information revealed in the prior story trailer. “SMT5 News Report Vol.1” discusses the new characters, and new battle system elements.

Firstly, the new characters reveal it is not just the player who is in this new world. Some of their classmates, and even the Prime Minister of Japan have been thrust into this strange world. It also seems the Prime Minister also gains similar powers to the protagonist, judging by their armor.

Some of them, like Tao Isonokami, claim to have had spiritual powers from a young age, or develop them as they roam the new world of Da’at. After being able to return to the real world, they join Bethel, a group dedicated to fending off the demons from attacking Tokyo. It seems fairly early in returning to the real world, demons attack their school.

New features in battle include Magatsuhi Skills. As players actions via the Press Turn system fill the Magatsuhi Gauge, special skills can be used when it is full; launching powerful attacks or healing and supporting allies. Opposing demons can use Magatsuhi Skills as well.

During a fan Q&A, it was revealed that DLC maps providing extra Macca and EXP (akin to those for Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne HD Remaster) would be available. More information will be revealed in the future, along with other answers to questions under the #AskSMT5 hashtag on Twitter.

You can find SMT5 News Report Vol.1 below, along with separate versions of the character and battle trailers.

The next “program” will premiere in late August, providing more news about the game.

Shin Megami Tensei V launches November 11th in Japan, and November 12th in the west on Nintendo Switch.
