Playstation 2 Remake of Phantasy Star 2 Finally Gets A Translation Patch

If you’re into the emu scene, you know one of the few remaining holy grails of the “We-Never-Got-This-In-the-West” list is Phantasy Star Generation 2, a Playstation 2 remake of the Sega Genesis classic Phantasy Star 2. Though the PS2 remake of the first game has had a translation out for quite some time, the sequel was in a state of limbo. Or so it seemed.

As of last night, the first (and presumably, fairly complete) patch for it went live on Phantasy Star Cave’s website. Amazingly, the patch is pre-applied, which is a first for this sort of thing. Whether that avoids some legal loophole or the site administrators just haven’t noticed it yet I can’t say, but I’m sure hungry Phantasy Star fans won’t care either way.

Released in 2005, Phantasy Star Generation 2 was part of the “Sega Ages” collection and paid much more attention to the plot and character development of the player’s party than the 16bit version. There was also an added option to continue playing as Nei after the Neifirst battle, provided you imported an end game save from the first generations title.

For those concerned, both of these Phantasy Star remakes work well in PCSX2 with very little PC horsepower needed to get them running at full-speed.
