Alongside a bevy of new Splatoon 2 details announced today was an important but easy to miss announcement – the Nintendo Switch Online smart device app is launching alongside the game.

The new app is “designed to enhance your online experience for compatible games on the Nintendo Switch console,” and its launching on July 21st. To be clear, this app will give you access to game-specific features, the first of which is Splatoon 2’s new SplatNet 2 feature.

SplatNet 2 will let you see your online battle stats, your gear, and much more. Within the app you can also send online play invitations to players on your Nintendo Switch friends list, and let you send invites via social media and even messaging services.

When you’re invited, you’ll get a push notification on your smart device. You can use voice chat open with friends once players are connected while in the online lobby and within online play – however voice chat support is on a game-to-game basis.
