Nintendo Files Trademark for “Nintendo Check-In”

When Nintendo launched the Nintendo Switch, the hybrid console lacked the StreetPass and Miiverse functionality its predecessors had. Now, we’ve learned (via Japanese Nintendo) the company is possibly introducing some kind of mobile-tagging feature, however it won’t be a new form of the aforementioned features.

The news comes via a trademark made by the company in Japan, which you can view above. Dubbed simply “Nintendo Check-In,” the new mark describes a feature that pertains to:

Planning and directing plays, film screenings, production or distribution, theatrical performances or performances, music performances, games of lend-lease administration, online games provide, provision of entertainment facilities, toys…

Could we be seeing a new geotagging-like check-in feature on the console? It would make sense considering the push to market the device as a mobile-home console hybrid, however Nintendo has run into some issues on how to identify the console.

We’ll keep you guys posted.
