NicoNico users discover the Angry Video Game Nerd and Nostalgia Critic through subtitled reuploads

Yeah, I’m a bit of a purist, I only watch the Angry Video Game Nerd subbed.

NicoVideo users have been hard at work to break down the language barrier for some of the early Internet’s most iconic content. Multiple users from the platform have been hard at work, as early as 2008, posting subtitled episodes of the Angry Video Game Nerd and Nostalgia Critic.

Japanese users have been enthralled by James Rolfe’s absurdist humor, and the very interactive NicoVideo danmaku chat system lets viewers react to crazy situations alongside the Nerd.

Alongside the Angry Video Game Nerd, users have also uploaded videos made by the Nostalgia Critic, another prominent figure that showed up shortly after AVGN started his meteoric rise.

User tosche was one of the more notorious sub uploaders, originally starting in 2008, but more NicoVideo users have joined since then, fully dedicated to bring western YouTube content to the east.
