As the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft continues to have regulators scrutinizing the buyout, new documents reveal Microsoft have made billions off Xbox Game Pass.

Documents by Brazil’s Administrative Council for Economic Defense (CADE) (via TweakTown) suggest that Microsoft’s has made around $2.9 billion from Xbox Game Pass.

The report specifically reads this income as being made from “game subscription services for consoles”, which should only refer to Xbox Game Pass and not the PC Game Pass. This may or may not include the Ultimate Game Pass, which covers both platforms and cloud gaming.

If these figures are correct, then based on the data of Xbox’s total revenue of $16.28 billion during 2021, Xbox Game Pass alone accounts for nearly 18% of revenue for Microsoft. Most recent reports currently list Game Pass to have over 25 million subscribers.

This report by CADE also reveals Nintendo to have generated $932 million from Nintendo Switch Online, though they don’t share any number from Sony’s newly relaunched PlayStation Plus, likely due to it only having been launched earlier this year.

CADE’s report also is meant to show the reason for why the regulatory body approved of the merger. They noted even if the Call of Duty franchise becomes exclusive to Xbox platforms in the future, they do not see that as an advantage because “Nintendo does not currently rely on any content from Activision Blizzard to compete in the market”.
