Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet wants to avoid TLOU 2 backlash by focusing on “faith and religion”

Developer Naughty Dog has teased more details for Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, their new science-fiction adventure franchise.

A new “Creator to Creator” podcast was hosted by Sony between Intergalactic director Neil Druckmann and 28 Years Later director Alex Garland, where the former revealed lots of details on his new game.

Druckmann opened up about games by bringing up the mixed reception The Last of Us: Part 2 got, saying, “We made certain creative decisions that got us a lot of hate. A lot of people love it, but a lot of people hate that game.”

Garland dismissed the hate the sequel got by saying “Who gives a shit?” to which Druckmann responded by saying they’re going to avoid controversy by focusing on religion.

“Exactly. But the joke is like, you know what? Let’s do something that people won’t care about as much. Let’s make a game about faith and religion,” Druckmann said.

More details on the game were revealed, notably that it takes place “2000 years” in the future based on an alternate timeline from the late 1980s. This deviation in the game world gives rise to a new religion.

Druckmann teases the new religion “becomes pretty prominent” and that the game spends years building out its mythology from the original prophet to modern times.

More information on the game world is revealed – specifically that it obviously doesn’t take place on earth and will instead be set entirely on a planet called Sempiria, which the protagonist crash lands on.

Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is in development for PlayStation 5.
