MiHoYo have released a new Genshin Impact Gorou overview trailer, showing off one of the two new characters that were recently added to their gacha action-RPG.
The canine warrior Gorou is the most trusted general of Sangonomiya Kokomi, leader of the Watatsumi Island resistance forces opposing the Raiden Shogun in Inazuma. He was introduced in the Inazuma story arc that was added in the game’s big 2.0 update, and is finally now available as a playable character.
Gorou is a 4-star Geo bow character that focuses on providing buffs to his party. His Elemental Skill, Inazuka All-Round Defense, places a war banner at the targeted location that provides an AoE buff to your entire party. The exact nature of the buff depends on how many Geo characters are in your party, making Gorou the first character in the game that has an ability that scales based on the elemental composition of your team.

If your party contains just one Geo character, the war banner’s buff increases the active character’s defense. Having a second Geo character in the party further enhances the buff to also include increased interrupt resistance. Finally, having a third Geo character in the party increases Geo damage dealt by the active character.
Gorou’s Elemental Burst is Juuga: Forward Unto Victory. Upon activating, Gorou’s Elemental Burst deals AoE Geo damage, then provides the same buffs as Inazuka All-Round Defense. The difference is that instead of a static AoE war banner, the buffs follow the active character around in the form of a magical floating dog. While active, Juuga: Forward Unto Victory will also periodically deal Geo damage to a nearby enemy, and then pull any shield crystals created from the corresponding Crystalize effect towards the party.
As an added bonus, Gorou has an exploration skill too. While Gorou is in your party, all nearby Inazuma specialty resources will be highlighted on your mini-map, much like the abilities that Klee and Qiqi have to make it easier to find Mondstadt and Liyue resources.
Gorou is now available as part of the Oni’s Royale limited time character wish event banner. He is showcased in the banner alongside fellow newcomer and 5-star Geo character Arataki Itto, as well as the 4-star characters Barbara and Xiangling.
