Shortly after Gears of War: E-Day was shown off again in an Xbox Podcast video, viewers noticed something unusual: a PS5 logo.
The PS5 logo briefly appeared alongside the game’s platform listings, suggesting a PS5 version might be in development. The mistake immediately reignited rumors that Gears of War: E-Day was originally planned as a multiplatform release.
Those rumors gained even more traction because the game had previously been rated for PlayStation 5 in Europe, and reports suggested a PS5 version was close to completion before Microsoft changed course.
Since then, Xbox leadership has made its position clear: Gears of War: E-Day is not coming to PlayStation.
Instead, the prequel will launch exclusively on Xbox Series X|S consoles alongside PC via Steam and the Microsoft Store. It will also be available on Game Pass from day one when it releases on October 6, 2026.
Set fourteen years before the original Gears of War, E-Day tells the story of the Locust Horde’s first emergence and follows younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago.
Built in Unreal Engine 5, the game promises a darker, more horror-focused take on the franchise, complete with updated multiplayer, a reworked Horde mode, and modernized gameplay systems.
