Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 will be announced

A new interview with CyberConnect2 CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama confirms Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 will be announced by this summer.

While Fuga: Melodies of Steel 2 will be announced as part of the previously announced trilogy of games, Matsuyama noted they’re prepping to reveal the game by July 2022.

“We are planning to announce ‘Fugue on the Battlefield 2 (tentative title)’ in July,” Matsuyama said to Famitsu. “In terms of game content, the game will take place one year after the characters in the first game.”

He added, “I think it will be quite a shocking content. We are also planning to release the official setting material collection of ‘Fugue on the Battlefield’ at this time.”

CyberConnect2 Creative Director Yoann Gueritot also confirmed news of the sequel on Twitter.

A note, Fuga: Melodies of Steel is the western name for the series, it’s known as Senjō no Fūga or Fugue on the Battlefield. This is also the same name given to its manga adaptation.

Matsuyama also talked up the recently launched Back to School DLC for Fuga: Melodies of Steel, which launched in January 2022.

It’s certainly interesting the developer is pursuing sequels with Fuga, as the first game apparently failed to even recoup its development costs – and more interestingly over half its sales came from the United States.

The original Fuga: Melodies of Steel is available on Windows PC (via the Epic Games Store and Steam), Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S. In case you missed it, you can find our thorough review on it here (we recommend it!).
