Third-person MOBA Fault: Elder Orb reuses old Paragon heroes and assets

Fault: Elder Orb

Publisher Pocketful of Quarter and developer Strange Matter Studios announced Fault: Elder Orb is leaving early access.

Fault: Elder Orb leaves early access and crosses over into the free-to-play dimension on Windows PC (via Steam and the Epic Games Store) on July 18, 2022. A first glance at the game will have fans of the cancelled MOBA Paragon wondering – as the game includes heroes and assets from that title, like the above Paragon hero the Countess making a return as a playable hero.

While this use of former Paragon assets and heroes isn’t explicitly noted anywhere in the game’s promotional material, their store page does mention the licensed content: “Paragon assets and characters in Fault are the property of Epic Games, Inc. and used under a license.”

“As a small team of indie devs that kept this ambitious project running for nearly three years without a hard marketing push, we think we have accomplished something truly impressive,” said Ryan Red, Community Director & PR Manager of Strange Matter Studios. “Our Early Access period gave us valuable time with our biggest supporters and implementing their essential feedback. We have taken it all to heart, their words have led to so many positive changes for Fault! We will keep following this path and continue improving the game beyond its v1.0 launch.”

“We believe the future of gaming is turning premium games into free to play,” said Mike Weiksner, co-founder and CEO of Pocketful of Quarters. “There are so many games stuck behind paywalls, and the launch of Fault: Elder Orb serves as a use case on how to make experiences player-centric through the use of interoperable, multi-game currencies like Quarters.”

Here’s a new trailer for Fault: Elder Orb:

Here’s a rundown on the MOBA game:

Fault is not like other MOBA games; Unlike the popular top-down model for MOBA’s, Fault is a 3rd person game, meaning you are right in the middle of the action. Our game has the high octane feel of popular brawlers and third-person shooters while preserving the strategy and team play potentials in popular MOBA games.
