Please be excited.
Actually, no – don’t get excited, because Square Enix just confirmed that Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III will not be appearing at this year’s E3 convention.
Despite a slight tease that Square Enix producer Shinji Hashimoto made at the games making a showing at E3, he later confirmed that they would not be getting new information next week, via Famitsu, and translated by our friends at SQEX.info:
“Well, first I’d like to say that development on Final Fantasy XV is going well,” Hashimoto said. “Internally, we try to ascertain the best timing for revealing new information about Final Fantasy XV to the fans. So when we were going over our promotion plans, we judged that this year’s E3 would not be the best time to exhibit information about Final Fantasy XV.
Instead we are currently planning to exhibit new information at events after E3 2014. I am extremely grateful to all the fans who excitedly anticipate Final Fantasy XV, and I’m looking forward to share new information when the timing is right. I would appreciate if fans hold out until then.”
Kingdom Hearts III is also skipping E3 2014:
“We are are working diligently on Kingdom Hearts III, but I think releasing new information will still take some time. We included a small part regarding the story of Kingdom Hearts III In the new trailer Kingdom Hearts HD 2.5 Remix prepared for E3 2014, so please check that out.”
Lastly, Hashimoto clarified the aforementioned teaser from the Comic-Con at Thailand last month:
“There was a misunderstanding in the reporting of that, a number of stories were accidently mixed into one. When I was asked about FFXV’s presence at E3, the answer I gave was that ‘I can’t answer yet.’ But somehow what I had said was framed in a different context when it was reported.”
So what do you guys think – will the games ever be finished? Was it a mistake for Square Enix to announce Kingdom Hearts III so early, and most especially Final Fantasy XV (then Versus XIII)? I’m running out of shots with Noctis looking bored, guys.
