I never thought that the day will come where I would like PewDiePie, but he’s apparently quite the shitlord. How ironic that the end of the SJW PC culture will be brought upon by a Swedish guy.

This can’t work out for them. It’s going to bite them in the ass so hard. Pewdiepie has too big of a following for it not to.

For those of you who are unawares since you might simply not follow Youtube drama, here’s the short summary of the PewDiePie saga over the past few weeks:

-PewDiePie, sick of slanderous media articles leeching off of his popularity/taking his videos out of context, starts to put references to Nazi Germany in his videos as satire.

-At around the same time, he makes an account of Fiverr, a platform where people do odd jobs for five dollars, to see how far he can take “absurd” requests, like making Jesus guy say “Hitler did nothing wrong.” and the African kids hold up a sign that says “DEATH TO ALL JEWS” while they say “subscribe to keemstar”, making a video for his channel and killing two birds with one stone.

-The African kids actually pull off his request, which was hilarious but also got them kicked out of his platform. Jesus also got kicked out of fiverr for the same reason. PewDiePie felt very bad, apologized to them and offered to help them get set up with their own websites. However, he does say that the video was there to prove the point that you can get people on the internet to say anything for five bucks and there’s nothing wrong with that.

-Some time passes. The media is now blowing up left and right with articles calling PewDiePie a neo-nazi. The Daily Stormer renames its front page to “PewDiePie’s Number One Fansite” or something. People are having a good laugh over it. African kids and I believe Jesus guy get their accounts back on Fiverr. PewDiePie is however effectively cut off the platform by means of having both his paypal and credit card blocked by the website.

-The bomb drops: The Wall Street Journal, a “reputable” website, has its “”””journalists”””” watch hundreds of PewDiePie videos and make a hit piece on him, based on the Nazism references he’s peppered throughout his videos. They send it to Youtube and Disney (Disney owns the network Pewds is signed up with). Disney buckles under the pressure and cuts ties with PewDiePie, cancelling a show they were planning on filming together and possibly costing him millions of dollars.

-The media starts putting out articles after the news, PewDiePie doesn’t have to be your entertainer, PewDiePie is dead.

-PewDiePie puts out a statement and a video re-iterating once again that he does not support anti-semitic groups, he makes videos as entertainment for his audience and that he does not plan on changing.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwk1DogcPmU

He actually starts crying because of the deluge of support he’s gotten from his fans and the internet at large.

-PewDiePie actually comes out with more subscribers, people who never even thought to watch his videos start doing it/enjoying it and subscribe to him because of his integrity. He’s all over the internet and bigger than ever.

    -Media BTFO.

It’s been some very entertaining couple of weeks.

His current humor is pretty funny. A step up from his autistic flailing on the screen while playing a game and pretending to be scared gig.

I don’t watch him at all, but his response to the media attack was very principled.

I can’t see him being autistic. Autism is the lack of understanding of emotions, sarcasm and nuance in general. It’s the opposite of histrionic. From what I’ve seen from him, he doesn’t seem to display any of that. If anything his previous humour was more histrionic. Just a pedantic correction.

I wasn’t being literal with the term, but okay.

I’m just slightly annoyed by it being overused in an incorrect manner. That’s all.

Autistic is the new “nerd”. When people label someone as autistic, its done with the implications that they are anti social, much like how people used to shame others with the term nerd.

There is a correlation between nerds and autism. Autistic people tend to be antisocial because of their condition and their lack of social skills and they tend to obsess in a certain areas of expertise, be that mathematics, physics or even gaming.

Nowadays being called autistic is a thought terminating cliche, implying that you are focusing too much on the facts and being pendantic. The other use is as a derogatory term in every situation. If we look at Fenrir007’s usage “autistic flailing” is associating autism with something completely unrelated to the condition. Same goes for the autistic screeching meme. Both of those behaviours would be more in tune with the Borderline Personality Disorder, which is the polar opposite of autism.

I suppose you are right that it could be substitute for a nerd, but it’s rather strange seeing it used in a niche gaming site’s comment section.

Why should anyone believe you when you won’t even read the articles or get the basic facts right.

Most insults are never used in a technical sense, I guess it just sounds snappier using certain terms after people help redefine them through repetitive use.

I guess the insult is seen even in communities liker here because antisocial behavior is just naturally shunned everywhere.

The thing is that the context it’s used completely contradicts the meaning given the specificity of the condition. It’s like saying that someone engages in an act of anaemic overeating or paralysis flailing. There is humour in that, given the oxymoron at hand, but this undermines the usage of the phrase as a proper insult or descriptor of a behaviour.

To your second point – chances are that people on a highly specialised site like this are quite nerdy and dedicated to their hobby, which would limit their social interactions to a degree. As you suggested it could be a substitute for a nerd, but in that case it will be the equivalent of somebody calling another person a poindexter in a science forum.

I guess the term could be used as a substitute for antisocial behaviour while providing a level of separation from the average person in the given space. Also there’s that extra bit of weight of it being a medical condition further implying that there is something wrong with the person rather than him choosing to be antisocial on his own.

I’ve got a lot of respect for the guy. I’m clearly not his target audience but I recently saw a video where he talked about why he doesn’t play video games anymore and he just flat out said that he was sick of faking reactions and playing games he fucking hated (read: Happy Wheels) for views.

The transparency is laudable and I hope he continues to do well for himself.

And “nerd” has been stolen by normalfags as an all-round good thing.
