Rumor: Assassin’s Creed “Project Rift” delayed, will be set in the Middle East

Assassin's Creed

We recently reported on the future of the Assassin’s Creed franchise with Valhalla DLC turned standalone game titled “Project Rift”. We now know a little more about where the game is reportedly set, according to a new rumor.

A previous rumor claimed that this new game will star Valhalla’s own Basim in his own standalone adventure. However, what was still unknown was where and when this game would take place.

As Basim is introduced after Eivor’s brother Sigurd returns from his adventures to the Middle East, one would wonder if this DLC takes place before the events of Valhalla, showing how Basim met with Sigurd and chose to join him on his journey back to Norway and England.

Another option would be a sequel, set after the events of Valhalla to wrap up Basim’s story set in the modern day and the animus system, like Desmond Miles or Layla Hassan.  We are lucky to have options to expand on Assassin’s Creed Valhalla’s narrative.

One piece of information that we have learned also comes from Bloomberg report Jason Schreier, who teased that the new Assassin’s Creed game will take place in the Middle East, specifically Baghdad.

The previous rumor claimed this new Assassin’s Creed game is among the titles that have been delayed by Ubisoft. Bloomberg reports that the original plans for the game were to release around February 2023, and now it will not launch until closer to May or June of next year.

Assassin’s Creed Project Rift is reportedly being developed by Ubisoft’s Bordeaux team and is still set to launch prior to the live service Assassin’s Creed Infinity.
