Spike Chunsoft Explains Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp Gameplay

Spike Chunsoft have provided more gameplay details on upcoming spin-off RPG board game Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp.

While the Danganronpa series focuses on deadly murder and deduction between the students, Ultimate Summer Camp is an expanded version of a minigame that appeared in Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. The RPG board game brings characters from across the series to a tropical island; with numerous CGs and fun events as they try to become the ultimate gifted student.

Spike Chunsoft explain that in the board game mode, Development mode, players must scramble around Jabberwock Island and the other nearby islands over 50 turns. Characters’ stats improve as they land on different squares, trigger different events, level up, and fight monsters and bosses.

Characters should also gather gear from shops and chests, cards for useful effects, and Talent Fragments to gain new skills to fight of the Monokuma-led fiends. Spike Chunsoft state visiting all the islands within 50 turns will be difficult at first, and players will need to improve their characters; suggesting permanent upgrades.

Along with the board game mode, there is a pure battle mode where parties of four characters can take on the 200-floor Tower of Despair. Build your characters carefully as they level up, and earn Monokuma Medals as you win.

These Momokuma Medals along with Monocoins can be spent at the School Store; to purchase new characters and support items via a gacha system. Characters of higher rarity will develop faster in the board game mode.

As an enhanced version of the original mini-game, Ultimate Summer Camp boasts 1,000 event scenes, and over 60 playable characters. Players start with access to the protagonist of each Danganronpa game.

Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp will be available physically via Danganronpa Decadence; a bundle celebrating the series 10th anniversary including the Anniversary Edition of first three main games. The game will also be available stand-alone digitally.

Danganronpa S: Ultimate Summer Camp launches December 3rd in North America and Europe on Nintendo Switch, and December 4th in Japan.
