Ghost of Tsushima Celebrates One Year Anniversary with Return of Legends Mode PlayStation Icon Costumes

Ghost of Tsushima

Sucker Punch have announced the return of the major PlayStation title inspired outfits for the one year anniversary of Ghost of Tsushima.

As previously reported, the game is set in the late 13th century of the real-life Japanese island of Tsushima. As the Mongol empire continues to conquer the East, Khotun Khan and his fleet seize the island, hoping to press on into Japan.

Jin Sakai is one of the last surviving members of his clan, and faces the difficult choice between keeping the bushido code, or abandoning tradition and using the skills of the ninja- a Ghost- to win back his homeland.

The game launched July 17th in 2020, and to celebrate several facts were revealed on Twitter, along with the developer’s gratitude. Players have made 679.2 million standoffs, entered 333.1 million duels, wrote 68.5 million haikus, and taken 61 million photos. They also spent 4,241 years on horseback, pet 55.63 million foxes, summoned 60.1 million Spirit Dogs, and played 40.76 million Legends Mode missions.

Speaking of Legends Mode, the co-op multiplayer mode that came to the game as a free updates, costumes inspired by other PlayStation titles will be available once again. Players can unlock outfits based on God of War, Horizon Zero Dawn, Shadow of the Colossus, and Bloodborne by completing Legends story or survival missions with each of the four classes.

Ghost of Tsushima previously sold 2.4 million units sold globally in the first three days of launch. This ensured it became the fastest-selling first-party original IP PlayStation 4 title. It reached 5 million copies in November 2020, with Deadline reporting the game has now sold over 6.5 million copies.

Sega chief creative officer Toshihiro Nagoshi (also general director of Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio and the creator of the Yakuza franchise) offered his high praise of the game; stating “It’s the kind of work made by non-Japanese people that makes you feel they’re even more Japanese than us. I think it’s amazing.”
