Microsoft Changes Xbox Live to Xbox Network After 18 Years

Xbox Live Network

Microsoft have announced that they are changing the name of Xbox Live to Xbox network.

The Verge report that Xbox dashboard beta testers noticed when uploading clips, they were sent to Xbox network instead of Xbox Live. A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to the Verge that Xbox Live would be changing its name.

“‘Xbox network’ refers to the underlying Xbox online service, which was updated in the Microsoft Services Agreement. The update from ‘Xbox Live’ to ‘Xbox network’ is intended to distinguish the underlying service from Xbox Live Gold memberships.” The update in the Microsoft Services agreement occurred in August 2020, and led to speculation if online services would eventually become free.

Instead, users found in January 2021 that Xbox Live Gold prices rose by $1 USD for one month, $5 USD for three months, and $20 USD for six months. Microsoft soon walked this back, along with announcing free to play games not requiring the membership to play. The date when this will be implemented has not been revealed.
