Nintendo Set to Acquire Luigi’s Mansion 3 Developer Next Level Games

Nintendo Next Level Games

Nintendo have announced they are set to acquire New Level Games, the developer behind Super Mario Strikers and Luigi’s Mansion 3.

The announcement came via Nintendo’s investor relations page. They explain that as they had recently been working exclusively on Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo Switch titles, and that the company’s shares were entirely owned by the owner-directors and employees.

Now the owner-directors are selling their shares, and Nintendo are set to acquire them by March 1st. Nintendo state “the Acquisition will have only minor effects on Nintendo’s results for this fiscal year.” This is expected, as any major projects would not begin until after the acquisition.

Next Level Games’ prior titles on Nintendo systems include Super Mario Strikers, Mario Strikers ChargedPunch-Out!! (2009), Transformers: Cybertron Adventures, Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon (2010), Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon, Metroid Prime: Federation Force, and Luigi’s Mansion 3.

As such, it is entirely possible we may see a revival of the Super Mario Strikers series. However it is worth mentioning that Nintendo almost certainly wholly owned the rights to that series, and could have continued to produce them with another developer if it so wishes.

We shall keep you informed as we learn of any future Next Level Games titles.
