Cyberpunk 2077 DLC Announcement Reportedly Delayed to After Launch

Cyberpunk 2077

CD Projekt Red have reportedly told investors the announcement of Cyberpunk 2077‘s DLC has been delayed to after the game’s launch.

Video Games Chronicle reports that during their third quarter earnings call on November 25th, CD Projekt Red’s president and joint-CEO Adam Kiciński was asked when they would announce and begin to sell the game’s season pass.

Kiciński responded “The initial plan was to do it before release, but after the recent delay, we decided to wait for the release to provide gamers with the game and then start talking about future projects. So, after release.”

The game was announced back in 2014, and saw two delays from its initial April 16th, 2020 release date. These delays were thanks in part to the coronavirus pandemic.

The game’s third and final delay was announced to be December 10th. The reason for this was cited by CD Projekt Red Co-Founder Marcin Iwinski and Head of Studio Adam Badowski as “undercalculating” the time spent improving the game via a Day 0 patch. In addition, issues arose from preparing the game for multiple platforms while working from home.

The DLC was previously reported to be announced to be revealed soon; relative to at least September 5th. At the time Kiciński also stated the game would have free DLC similar to The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, which had two expansions and 16 DLC packs.

Other post-release content will include the game’s multiplayer, which CD Projekt Red have boasted numerous times to be free of microtransactions. Kiciński stated he would shared more information about the multiplayer in Q1 2021. He also emphasized the game’s multiplayer would be akin to its own AAA release.

“It’s a separate dedicated production, a big production, and we plan – we think about it as a standalone product. Obviously, it’s not entirely standalone as it comes from the universe of Cyberpunk and is very much related to the concept of single-player Cyberpunk.

It’s another independent production and [an] independent team of people works on it…. I said already we are not focusing right now on talking too much about other future products, products that are to be released after Cyberpunk. So please be with us in the first quarter of next year when we plan to share some strategy update. And I believe Cyberpunk multiplayer will be possible.”
