Open Bionics Hero Arm Metal Gear Solid

Konami and Open Bionics have announced a Metal Gear Solid inspired cover for the below elbow amputee Hero Arm prosthesis.

Open Bionics specialize in turning disabilities into superpowers;” with their prosthetic limb Hero Arm. Along with a bespoke design, the prosthesis boasts precision, long battery life, and notifications via haptic vibrations, beepers, buttons, and lights.

Further, the prosthesis also features a variety of covers with a sleek and sophisticated look. Designed for those 8 or older, designs also include those inspired by comic book and cartoon characters; such as Iron Man, Star Wars, and Frozen.

The latest of these is in collaboration with Konami; a cover based on the prosthesis of Metal Gear Solid‘s Venom Snake (also known as Punished Venom Snake and several other aliases). One of the first to receive this cover is Daniel Melville from the UK; who was ecstatic.

“This is unbelievable. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted from a bionic arm. I’m an avid gamer and love Metal Gear Solid so much and to actually have Snake’s arm in real life is just insane.”

You can see the arm in action below.

Melville is also the proud owner of the Guinness World Record’s first prosthetic limb based on a videogame; inspired by Deus Ex‘ Adam Jensen.

While Open Bionics state “the Hero Arm isn’t equipped with weapons, it is an impressive feat of engineering that is changing the lives of hundreds of upper limb amputees; both adults and children as young as eight years old.”

The prosthesis cover can be purchased via the Open Bionics shop from £599 GBP (estimated $779 USD), and is available to ship to the US, United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.
